After watching other clips I have changed my mind now. The performance wasn’t actually that bad. It was just bad videography that zoomed into her face too much throughout the performance. She looked happy and enjoyed the performance. Yes she didn’t move much, but THE Mariah Carey herself showing up is already iconic enough. Happy to see that her kids were also part of the show.

I would love to see a more dramatic entrance though, like being carried around in a massive sparkling pumpkin carriage or butterfly-shaped ballon lit up with LED lights something like that.

I wondered WTF the Umbrella was all about - then it hit me! It was daylight outside. She hates the daylight - obvs shows too many sins. So the umbrella was nothing to do with rain or sun for that matter. It was to make sure she looked good and not showed up by over head bleak day light.

other than wondering that. I have no issue whatsoever with the performance. Nothing went wrong. She looked beautiful and happy. I have no issues.

It looked quite overcast to me, it wasn't even sunshining nor was it raining heavily.

It was clearly part of the look but I wished she'd put it down half-way through and enjoy herself.

People always create drama out of nothing! I saw the performance and I liked it a lot, Mariah was top, beauty-wise and the production is fantastic.
We all know the performance would be lipsynched, so why do people make a big deal out of it?
And we also know that Mariah is the kind of performer who doesn't move, her voice does all the work (lipsynch or live). And yet, she stood like a frail and capricious queen, just holding her royal umbrella.
Haters were going to look for anything to criticize the performance anyway.

And even that is pure cirumstantial and projection. She smiled, looked great, gave her best at lip synching and held her own umbrella in a dress that was not made for any human body movement. Were the others also delivering Christmas royality with their looks?

They wanted to see her move and trip, the tiara smashing on the ground, her stumbling on the loose diamonds on the ground, falling backwards on her head being impaled by her umbrella... that's what the "press" wanted.

Instead, the Godlike woman just stood there and prevented her own demise by moving as much as the costume allowed. <3 Queen of protecting her own life.

The dress is her own fault and honestly i see this excuse being used too often.

Anyway, in the end, the only commentary that can be given to the professional singer is that she looked great.

However, Brian is a really bad coreographer… the one she had during SSFT and her first Vegas shows was a million times better (eventhough a dickhead) he brought Mariah Carey to life.. she moved like she never did before and she actually was part of the whole thing… but since Brian got the role… nahhh she became stiffer than stiff…

I love seeing Trey towards the end. He’s loving life!

I purposefully take 10 months off listening to the song each year and it always manages to sound fresh. At the same time it’s been in my life since I was a kid having to hit rewind on the cassette so I could hear it again. Love it!

I do agree with your last sentence. In that regard the appearance was a success. It’s a shame that the golden opportunity to smash it out of the park on a high coverage event like this with a live performance was ignored. But oh well.

Correct! The moment is more of a ^be seen^ festive and celebratory moment. Don't matter what Mariah wore, persons were waiting to critique it and make it an issue.

The thanksgiving parade isnt the grammy's or highly anticipated award show where something huge is expected so i disagree with investing anymore. She has her show to ensure its a moment with wonderful production
