The melody during this part of Crybaby is sick! Not to mention the whole song is another lyrical masterpiece. She’s such a musical genius, some songs you can randomly rediscover and get amazed all over again.

I've always been a melody man, first and foremost. That is what grabs me and holds me. I have never paid much attention to the lyrics. Often, aside from bits and pieces, I'm not sure what is being sung. The BeeGees are my all time favorite. Masters of melody and harmony, but I still can't figure out alot of their lyrics. Same goes for Mariah. Her melodies, arrangements, production, samples, etc is what has held me captive all these years. Only now am I paying closer attention and becoming impressed by how insightful and clever of a lyricist she is. I know that must sound crazy in this crowd.

I too am a melody man... and often times delve into lyrics later. Doesn't sound crazy at all to me!

I love a good melody (that's why I'm also a huge Madonna fan).

But it's funny to read you didn't pay much attention to Mariah's lyrics at first. Back in the day when I could only pay one CD a month, I would always go for a CD that had a booklet with lyrics. If it hadn't and I still wanted that CD, I would write out all the lyrics myself (which took a lot of work). Nowadays I really love how you can listen to Spotify and just click on the lyrics at the bottom.

Crybaby is genius on another level. One of her Top 5 songs fr and it might not be 2-5 … but seriously I swear there’s something new I tend to discover and love about every time I listen.

Crybaby has been one of, if not, my favourite songs from Rainbow since its release. The raw lyrics and vocals really hit a nerve, and the video is cute. It should’ve been a lot bigger but the public weren’t ready for R&B Mariah back then.

The song is OK - good. But it never excited me. By 1999 AC-Mariah was dead and couldn't come to the phone no more, R&B Mariah was in full force. Sadly and indeed, the GP was not trusting that image.
