Impressive numbers for IAW. I guess we'll have to start hoping for a million. What is the single day Spotify peak for a non-holiday Mariah song (one of her songs not BER)?
Definitely fake unless NY has some unusual practices with these photos. You have to look straight forward for these, not to the side and down for a good angle.

I think BER peaked at 610k or something. If we combine versions, I don't think she's had a non holiday song beat today's 759k. stevyy can verify that.

I think IAW is her biggest daily streams. I remember STD had her biggest stream day around 400k also GTFO was close but below that. And WBT had its biggest stream day now so it never had passed 300k mark before

The IAW OG is 14 consecutive days over 500k now. She's never done that before outside of her holiday tunes. And the EP total topping 700k two days running has got to be record.
I find it very satisfying that it is happening to a deep cut track off Memiors that she has sole credit on as a writer. It's a special kind of validation for her as an artist. And it sounds as good now as it ever did.
I think it's got to go to Someday. Its got dismal streams and Mariah doesn't even like it. #unloved. Makes me sad.
I remember how much I loved it at the time. After VOL and LTT she proved she could do the uptemp just as convincing as the ballad. This one rocked and had all the attitude to go with it. Someday is still in my Top 5 of her #1s.
I'm listening to the New 12" House Mix right now. What a bop.

Spotify and TikTok are bigger now. If Obsessed had gone viral today, it would have done a million streams a day—double that of IAWs current numbers.

Oh sure. Probably. I remember how huge TMB was when YT was brand new. Those numbers pale now. That is just the way of emerging / evolving platforms. We can make observations like that about all sorts of charts. But at the end of the day, we have the numbers we have, and while we can keep relative growth in mind, it doesn't add much to speculate about what-ifs.
What we can say with confidence is that both O and IAW benefitted from truly impressive viral moments. Why I find IAW so satisfying is because came out of nowhere as a virtually unknown tract. That makes it alot of fun.
Meanwhile, IAW is still growing. Let's see where it ends up.
The end of The Roof (When I feel the need) feat Brandy is so hauntingly beautiful. The live instrumental, Brandy’s addictive “when I feel the need” adlibs, the harmonies.
Yes the original is untouchable but I love this version too.
I still remember where I was the first time I heard Breakdown and the first time I heard Crybaby. That’s how you know you a song is truly excellent.
“Crybaby” has always been such a contentious song for me. For a start, I don’t love the title. This was the height of the cutesy, girly titles Mariah was leaning into for her song and album names. From a commercial standpoint they were limiting (“Loverboy” was the worst). Mariah had almost been out for a decade at that point and her image was seen as trying to keep up with the likes of Britney who was on top at the time. Mariah was criticised for being too old for all that. This was also the height of Raspriah which I know many fans love but I go back and forth on (particularly because it really just indicates damage). She’d sound much better on the next album. Sonically I don’t really love the song either. When it was chosen as a single it was pretty confusing. Mariah was trying to prove a point.
To do a complete 180, lyrically, the song has really stayed with me. The amount of times “ok, so it’s 5am and I still can’t sleep” has popped into my head over the years is crazy. As an insomniac it’s so relatable! “Why is it 5am and I’m still up spiralling?” I haven’t listened to the song for a very long time and really don’t have any desire to but those lyrics are a constant. Maybe I mostly don’t like the sample? I’m not sure.
“Breakdown” on the other hand is timeless and really sounds like nothing else. It was ahead of its time and deserves far better. I’d love for it to have a moment.

I may agree with Someday.
It was a massive airplay hit in 1991.
It spent 10 weeks at #1 on the airplay charts (at the time BB was using two airplay charts and transitioning to one over the other... but either way BB considers Someday a 10 #1 airplay hit).
It also reached #2 on Single Sales. It was big at the time.
Another I'd consider is another from early on in her career - I'll Be There.
8 week #1 airplay hit, and propelled sales of the single and the album. It was a classic AC and Pop song back then, and now it seems to have been forgotten.
IDWC and TGIFY are largely unappreciated, but they were not huge at the time of their release.

The most underrated for me is I don't wanna cry. The obsession I had with that song when I first heard it. Mariah also never acknowledges this one

One of the reasons why she has forgotten hits by the general pub, is because every album that she released that time comes with massive singles. who would have thought she would top her success with one sweet day with WBT and now WBT by All i want for christmas is you. she just have so many hits that most of them got overshadowed by her own. if her career stopped in 1992 she would probably be best remembered with LTT, Someday Vision of love, Emotions & I'll Be there. but then again as she continues to dominate the 90's she had dreamlover, then her massive ballads Without you & Hero then the next year she had daydream singles and so on.
Mariah Carey- The Queen of Queens And The Goddess of Goddesses

It’s funny to me the lack of streams Dreamlover has considering how often I hear people say things about how they “miss that Mariah” … listen to her then??
funny how one can learn
to grow numb to the madness
and block it away

Oh yeah, I totally forgot about IBT. Ha, that supports your idea that it is underrated. I tend to overlook it myself.
I love IDWC. It's definitely underrated. Gorgeous song and a decent video too. Those early AC leaning songs, all the way up to Dreamlover, but excluding Emotions, seem to be her most forgotten.
