Hot take. I prefer the second half of Daydream to the first. Who says three songs going six months at #1 is better than Melt Away, the greatest song of all time.
But really, just for my personal listening pleasure, I'll take When I Saw You through Looking In every time. But, I will admit, for the chart freak in me, there is no greater run than Fantasy through I Am Free. 3 #1s, 27 weeks at #1.

Just catching up.. wow at the bitterness and jealousy of Chaka Khan! The envy and bitterness just seeping out of her pours! Wow. Horrible woman. And trying to justify her behaviour suggesting people just don’t get her is hilarious. She’s clearly a horrible cow. That’s all there is to it.
Miss Khan has a solid belief that she is better than she is. I wouldn’t even place her in the top 50 so she should be humble and delighted with her placing. To avoid any upset, please note; anything I post is purely my opinion. If I feel it is a fact, I will state that I feel it is a fact. Lol.

I’m just glad Mariah is at a point where she treats unnecessary criticism as the other person’s problem (which it is), and doesn’t internalize it, like with Darlene
If it’s true everyone knows Chaka is a bitch, Mariah probably does too

NorthernMonkey "Horrible cow!"
New lyrics needed: "I'm Every Hefer".
Just kidding. That's so mean. I just couldn't resist.

Mariah is on a whole other level. It's so idiotic to assume that SONY bought like 40-50 million of her albums which is what the haters are desperately trying to insinuate...
IF Mariah's music was artificially pushed then why did it stand the test of time and is still consumed today? Why is she even ahead of Madonna on Spotify who allegedly has the realest and biggest and most impactful music out of any female ever...
If Mariah's career was fake, then her music should be a 363 streams and 528 montly listeners.
Even the songs which got the singles-reduction-price treatment such as TGIFY, My All and Heartbreaker have incredibly strong streams in comparison to real hits from the same era or other female acts from the same time.
People who use this drag have inner-psychological problems and cannot be helped. My Chart

Mariah in her prime was so outstanding... like in the sense of the word: stood out.
Nobody could or would move me like Mariah did and continues to do. (Whitney being the only one who comes close).

Imagine her actually caring for another xmas #1 and collaboring with Ari again on Where are you Xmas...
Or her actually releasing SUD with some sort of image change blitz thru daytime and late night TV.
Or her actually producing watchable music videos...
Or promoting her music in general.
She has been winning, is currently winning and will continue to win in the future... but I want her to decimate and shut up those haters who are consistently trying to downplay her winning.

My thoughts on the latest craziness. LOL.
First, the RS's list has a good number of dead artists in the top 20, so this list had nothing to do with how these singers were singing yesterday but what they were capable of at their peak. Mariah may have her struggles at times now, but she was an impressive vocalist in her prime years, that is undeniable for anyone with ears. A lip sync scandal here or there doesn't change that. LOL Second, music is an art, so part of greatness isn't just about hitting the notes but also the connection the artist can build with listeners and how that stretches over time, how multi-generational that can be, how powerful that reach was. Mariah is not just a singer but a writer and producer too and has created music that kept fans engaged over a long span of time.
Mariah has had the career and artistic reach that Chaka couldn't even begin to dream about, and Chaka is bitter about it.
With that said, I still really enjoy Ain't Nobody and think Chaka was a genuine talent in her day. I hope the lambs don't gang up on her, just because that is likely her real MO here. Darlene got attention from her one-sided MC feud and sold a few extra tickets, Chaka is probably just looking to do the same. Don't give it oxygen people, let the bitter has-beens have their pity parties without the lambs.Last edited by WEBofDESIRE; Thu March 2, 2023, 20:35.

She's out lasted and proven false every nasty thing. Her talent is only matched by her perseverance. There may be a queen of pop, queen of soul, queen of this and that. But Mariah is simply the Queen. Queen of Everything!

She stepped up and promoted IAW with five tiktoks. Her kids probably drove that. She is capable when motivated. Where I'd like to see her step up and take a more proactive approach is in directing videos and recording remixes. Both appeal to her creative side and don't take much money.

"She's a Whitney wannabe" -> She writes and produces all her stuff
"She can't sing live" -> MTV Unplugged with IBT going all the way to #1
"Her career is over" -> TEOM + Song of the decade.
"She'll never score another #1" -> AIWFCIY BABY!!!!
"Nobody knows her outside Xmas" -> 100 million Spotify streams in February.
Honestly, there's a part of me glad that the industry didn't handle her with velvet gloves like some of her peers. She had to constantly prove herself and her worth to the haters, critics, fans and even herself. In short, Mariah>>>>>> Yo favs.

All time best of lists are meant to be debated and discounted. RS's placement of Mariah was a surprise, not because of Mariah's worthiness, but because of how RS has treated her over the years. I think her ranking is well deserved. The placement of others (MJ) and absence of others (Celine) is worth ridiculing. And that's the fun of these lists.
In RS's defense. I keep hearing people refer to this list as being about the greatest singing "voices", but RS dismissed that in their opening statement about how they formed their list. They specify that the list is about the influence and impact of the greatest "singers". That key detail makes it more than about vocal abilities. In this way, someone like Tom Petty and Bob Dylan are competitive with a Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson.

But me thinks Chaka just wants to get attention and has no shame in throwing other artists under the bus to accomplish that. With the Mariah, Beyonce and Mary J Blige shade, I'm sure she's getting a lot more social media mentions than usual.
