Probably they have but it’s somewhere in Sony vault. When it first announced I thought Mariah/Sony cleared the whole performance to be featured on the album but sadly I’m wrong. Or maybe Mariah didn’t like the other verse or they were out o pitch or some other problem and they cut it out. But I was so happy cause I thought we’d finally hear the whole performanceUnderneath The Stars

Originally posted by woabritney View PostI’ve said this before but it really sucks that Mariah is basically penalized for… living. There are artists who are considered legends despite only having a few successful years, and then they either faded away or passed away. Imagine if Mariah had passed away right after Daydream or Butterfly? She’d be called the greatest singer ever by everyone.
Instead she dared to survive, struggle, and persevere only to be ridiculed for aging (in terms of her vocals, weight fluctuation, etc). She’s a victim of her own extraordinary talent, and an easy target.
I actually think her vocal struggles are the reason she really started highlighting her writing in the late 90s, saying it was “more important” than her singing talent. Sad she has to be defensive about any of it, but because she’s so frequently offended it makes sense.
One would have thot that as she ages and gets older, the accolades would pile up as is the case for literally any male artist or the 1960s female artists.
It is this 80s / 90s flock of females who are not allowed to age in this society. MJ was ridiculed to the pits, Madonna made headlines for her "face", Mariah for her vocal issues and weight, Whitney became a running gag on shows such as Mad TV...
And we're living in this weird time in which these 16 to 32 year old singers are overshowered with acclaim and awards. Kids born 10 years ago might think that there hasn't been another successful and impactful female singer other than Eilish, Adele and Swift.
Beyoncé gets some tween love too, Gaga is for the gheys, Madonna / Mariah are walking mummies / deads, Alicia is forgotten, and the old white dude gen salivates for Lennox, Mitchell and the likes.
Mariah is also punished for her success and continued success. Eight weeks ago she was #1 in basically every country which has a music chart and a lot of people are now planning and pushing grotesk jokey-music in order to "defeat the devil" that Mariah Carey's music has become.
I find it extremely weird that Mariah gets so much hate especially from black female veterans... as if she did something to them personally. Chaka Khan is the 2nd woman within the past 30 weeks to come for her throat. What the actual fark.
I could understand if the Republican voting base and Nazis would despise Mariah (bc she is a liberal non-white girl who supported Obama)... but her own communitiy...? grotesk. My Chart

I've always liked her voice when it is a little raspy, as long as it still has the movement to it and isn't overly dry. Some of my favorite performances from her are from the Charmbracelet/Glitter eras where she had a really nice raspy yet nimble tone. On some of the really rough performances where she is maybe sick or just not rested, the raspy dryness kind of stops her from performing the songs well, that's not the kind of raspy that I like.
The middle ground raspy voice she can really work, I always loved this one:

...
The irony is its her very "survivor" instinct that has led to so much creative and commercial success. I feel bad for her on one hand, but on the other I recognize that all she has gone through has been the catalyst for her career. It has been that way from the very start. Maybe she needs the negative stimulus to reach her full potential.

It's Friday night and I'm listening to MC remixes with the headphones. That's how this old lamb (I just had my 56th bday this week) parties these days.
Who likes the I Stay In Love Jody den Broeder remix? I'm liking it. It's a good one.
I Stay In Love has really grown on me over the last few years. I'd always faulted E=MC2 for its lack of a strong ballad or two (Bye Bye doesn't really count), but ISIL is better than I first gave it credit for. It has a beautiful and underrated video too.
What remix are you liking right now and what song has grown on you the most?Last edited by CasualFlow; Sat March 4, 2023, 03:32.

Sorry for spamming the thread. I guess I'm the only one up. No US lambs tonight?
This conversation about how Mariah has struggled with ridicule reminds me of her book where she talked about how, as a mixed race child, she wasn't really accepted by the black or white community. Both were suspicious of her. It's almost unbearably sad. But I think it toughened her. Still, she is remarkably void of bitterness and most gracious, which I think is a testament to her faith most of all, which is underappreciated even among lambs. In anycase, sadly, I think she is used to being un-accepted, if not ridiculed.
Good Lord, this is making me really sad. Heartbreaking. Songs like Outside and Looking In reflect that real pain and longing for acceptance. She shared that and saved so many in the process.
God bless you Mariah Carey. We accept and love you.

Happy belated Anniversary CasualFlow !
Good, I always like to read how she is perceived throughout America.
Glad you are having your own party. ISIL doesnt go anywhere for me, always prefered T4N from day one.
Damn that album is calibrated with lit songs.

Tnx. Loverboy. Its been a good b-day hanging with my kids.
E2 is lit! So many bops. The most of any of her albums, and T4N was a fav from Day1. But I don't really consider it a ballad. Do you? Or maybe "love-song" is the better term. I guess BB is a technically a ballad, but I don't see it as a love song.

Yeah, T4N is more of a midtempo. Hard to categorize.
Now that you're bringing that up, ISIL seems to me more loved now than it once was, though that song always had its own little fanbase at fan pages and so. The newer/younger fans like it. Same for the Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel álbum. To certain slots of the Lambily that album is on par with her best.

It's not new, and Mariah is above it. Mariah is bigger than it. (Though I reserve the right to comment if it blows up)
I think the only ch/shaka I'm interested in is Shaka who needs his own comeback.
Peace out.
Thank you for taking the time to actually read what I wrote (even if it was too long-winded for you!) and understand the intent behind it. Sometimes when you can see you're being misinterpreted, trying to correct that perception only makes things worse. I never endorsed or agreed with what Chaka said. I never defended it. I've been a fan of Chaka's for a long time, I've seen her live three times (and was lucky that she was in amazing voice each time) and have seen enough interviews to know how she is. In hindsight I should have just said "Chaka is known to talk sh*t, even to her friends faces. It's not that deep. Take it with a grain of salt" and left it at that.
As for the whole payola thing, that was a skeleton from so far back in Mariah's closet that it felt pointed and deliberate for Chaka to use that word. I hadn't heard it mentioned since the 90's. Talking about how Mariah was perceived by some back then is not me agreeing with that perception yet that's how a few contributors here took it. Of course I don't attribute her career to payola! That's ridiculous. Did she get some help from it while she was married to Tommy? It's likely, but we don't know. It's been well documented that Sony was found to be deep into the practice. Payola may have gotten her some radio play in the US but that doesn't automatically translate to sales. Her music speaks for itself and I've always said this.
The point I made about the Butterfly album was that she was effectively rugged by the record label because of the marriage breakdown and had to hustle to make that project successful. Radio was not as supportive so clearly the label wasn't providing monetary help in that area. "My All" reached #1 because of physical sales and look at the enduring hit it has turned out to be. Sony International threw the single into the market with no promotion whatsoever. The point was if there was any payola to begin with then it was well and truly gone by 1997.
As for the lambs who feel it's their right to decide if someone is a fan or not based on some forum posts, some things will never change. Those who react emotionally when something negative is said about Mariah as if it's an affront to THEM personally are wild to me. If you're actually going to Chaka's social media accounts and saying foul things about her, making jokes about her addiction struggles because she thought Mariah was too high on some list, is that really reasonable? Are you really honouring Mariah with that? It all gets so blown out of proportion.
