It seems pretty clear to me that promo for her new music should be focused on tiktok. Somehow she’s managed to become a huge force on there (she has more followers than even many current artists) and has gone viral several times now. Hook up with some influencers and come up with a cute little jig and get those streaming numbers up.

^ It’s not a fear of failure or an insult to her talent. It’s the business she is in and sometimes the best songs or the most talent isn’t enough when you are facing an up hill battle with corporate entities that have different motivations, ambitions or agendas. So she’s making pragmatic business decisions for herself.

Sure, she is not likely to get a label to help her try and manufacture a hit, which certainly helps the it artists of the moment. However, I just find it odd for fans to say that they don't think Mariah is capable of having an organic hit of her own. That's really a way of saying that deep down they don't think that Mariah's music is as high quality as other artists. Like @woabritney pointed out, MC has a decent following on TikTok and can capture a viral moment now and again, should she happen to release a song that resonates organically with the younger demographics that drive streaming (would likely take something more upbeat and fun - a truer pop than she generally does now) I don't see why she couldn't build something off of that.

While major support helps, every once in a while that big streaming hit comes out of nowhere from a complete unknown on a little indie label or no label at all. The odds might be against another big new Mariah song, but I would never count her out. As @CasualFlow mentions, the streaming/digital music era has actually taken a lot of the label's power away and made it easier than ever for a song to become an organic hit. The song just has to do the work, people have to like it organically vs. being told via advertising and placement that they like the song.

But, I agree that she just has to make the music that she wants to make, what she is feeling. Whether or not something that comes from that clicks would always be an unknown.
