This is the show. Super recommended:

I feel sad that they erased her life and impact, tho. Not going to watch these fake news programs.

Yeah, it sucked that they didn't recognize her contributions to the mainstreaming of HipHop.

          • I mean she was one of many who made it mainstream it’s not that deep!

Hip Hop culture is way bigger than Mariah’s contributions. Expecting them to mention/include Mariah every possible time is a disrespect itself to the actual culture.

Sure is way bigger but she is noteworthy and her contributions to the culture. A little mention when talking about hip hop and it's history isnt the end of the world but she is apart.

the Vh1 hip hop honors really helped highlight her contributions and I guess that should be sufficient

                    • If my memory is still intact, Mary J. Bilge was the first to do the “sing with Rap collaboration”, but Mariah made it cross over in a way Mary couldn’t. She’s done so much for hip hop in the 90s, it’s a shame that they ignored her.

                      • Mariah will never be seen as a legend or even an impactful artist when even those who claim to be fans bicker about her stnding and creative input. I guess, RS magazine won and succeeded in making her seem as a non-factor to music history and culture.

well done. We stan a one-hit-wonder flop and fad. Xmas fad confirmed.

I know it’s kinda your whole thing, and I know you’re a lovely lamb and people love your posts. But I find your posts so frustrating. Wish you had two accounts, one actual one and the other troll one, and I wish I could mute the troll one.

Mary did it 1st with more urban appeal. Mariah elevated it to more pop n RnB crossover appeal. Marchum may be correct. Not every conversation requires a Mariah Mention even tho she is noteworthy.

                            • Not every show or person needs to mention Mariah’s impact but if you ask any rapper in the industry from the mid-90s until now I’m pretty sure they’d give Mariah the props she deserves for making hip pop collabs not just a thing but the thing. Plus she got a ton of slack for it and instead of stopping she went even further in the hip hop direction.

The truth is Mariah doesn’t get props in certain specific categories because she’s so huge overall people don’t necessarily place her as a genre artist.

                              • I watched the show and enjoyed it but was surprised that she wasn't mentioned when discussing how rap mainstream-ed with pop into HipHip, only because M has been so widely recognized by rock historians as instrumental in this transition.

Sure, I didn't expecte her to be a focus on a show about rappers and their roots. But at that moment in the show dropping her name would have been totally appropriate.

That’s all I meant. Would have been nice. And to the person who said May J was doing it too, yes, I thought they would have mentioned Mary J as well. It was a huge deal that ODB was on a pop song.

And, by the way, a lot of it is about how they used the samples differently and I already identified 4 Mariah songs just from the samples and songs they play.

People don’t realize how hip hop her heart is

I don't agree at all. A 30 s mention about her support and crossover appeal would be nice. But it ain't that deep

YES! Thank you for posting this. The Emotions era had some of the most balls to the wall live performances where Mariah just knew her voice was ON and she went for everything! Imagine what it must have been like in the room! This performance and It’s Over at the Grammy’s are my favourite live performances she ever did. She was so confident and so sure of what she was doing. No dubbing required! SNL always brought the best out of Mariah for some reason. Even the performances at this time when she wasn’t as confident her voice was still pristine. I even love that Top of the Pops performance of Emotions when she was sick so she changed up the vocal arrangement. 1991-1992 would have been a great time to be a fan.

I loved #Beautiful instantly, which was only 2 albums ago (even though it feels like an eternity). And tbh I loved GTFO instantly, though in a different way.

Actually since E=MC2 it's been the 2nd singles that are the problem, especially considering she had so many other potential hits to choose from.
