My favourite moments of this performance;
1.) Melonie’s ad-lib at 3:00 was so on point. Love her tone.
2.) Mariah’s run at around 3:04. Not sure was it supposed to be Mariah’s line or Laura trying cut Mariah off but that run was just beautiful. Wish Mariah had carried on and sang a lil bit more.
3.) All of Mariah’s ad-libs. Her tone basically outshined everyone.

I didn’t know y’all hated In The Mix so much. Sure not the strongest vocals but musically it’s reminiscent of her strong string of lead singles from the 90s. Great melodies and I actually love her backing vocals on the final chorus especially “round and round it goes”. It definitely gives me that nostalgic vibe of an American 90s sitcom too—and for a lot of people those songs made the shows.funny how one can learn

To avoid any upset, please note; anything I post is purely my opinion. If I feel it is a fact, I will state that I feel it is a fact. Lol.

I think it was a mistake since sales were split.
I know iTunes is dead anyway and at the end of the day it means nothing, but just for enjoy the moment it would've been nice to have the song in the Top 10 for a couple of hours. And Thursday was the best shot at it.

She sounds like she has asthma at some points but I think the melody is gorgeous.

C'mon!
They're not masterpieces but each of 'em have elements that I enjoy.

but to still be at least reminiscent while just serving as a tv theme and not the lead single of a major album release should count for something

Hero climax was EPIC.
My All was AMAZING.
And her ad-libs here were fantastic, her TONE was shining.
Mariah's mic was so low tho, the whistle was so good but almost inaudible, and Laura was basically screamingI love her, but nope girl.
A fantastic concert overall, and Mariah X Luciano is one of my fave moments of Mimi's career.

Acually I think SL is good.
There's plenty of worse songs, like Almost Home, X-Girlfriend, Lil' Snowman, How Much, some MIAM tracks (vocally), TAOLG (messy af and lyrically), Can't Say No (vocally), Why U Mad...

People saying iTunes doesnt matter really should look into those close chart competitions where only a few hundred units made the difference between chart spots. As long as downloads remain part of the chart formula, iTunes will remain relevant. It's a matter of getting enough downloads.

But I think we're talking about these Mariah's songs like WIB or SL that we know they won't chart.
Being top 30 means nothing these days.
Only the Top 3/5 is strong.
And just talking about sales.
Then you have to be strong in all the components, tho we know streaming & airplay are more important, and those are Mariah's weakness.

But I'm never in a mood for that song.
It's cute, it sounds like a bop (kinda), not a fan of her tone.
Not memorable for me.

I dislike certain elements in the background.
I appreciate that gurl was using her chest voice all the time, I'll give her that.

Listening to some of her modern stuff, I think about Walter. I respect Mariah for holding a grudge and not going back to him, but I do feel that when she was working with him, they created a really professional sound that became like the Mariah brand. A lot of Mariah’s later songs have the magic spark so it’s clear Mariah is the driving force but I feel like he was just able to round it off into something that was perfect.

Itunes is the least important chart metric and it is irrelevant when it comes to charting purposes, unless you also have either streaming or radio to bolster it. Downloads on their own are not enough to do anything. Also who is talking about Somewhat Loved cos it was released on a thursday. Genuinely curious. The same people would have had the same conversations if it were released on a friday.Last edited by InFamous; Fri June 11, 2021, 17:55.Billie Eilish claims her second Number 1 single with What Was I Made For? , scoring a last-minute victory over Dua Lipa’s Dance The Night.

All the other songs just sound very dated upon first listen. Outside of the Caution album, I haven't liked any single release or semi-single releases since #Beautiful. Gosh that's quite some time.

Originally posted by MayoAndMustard View PostShaka, I might be part of the minority regarding this but I do wonder what do you think like, although her tone was gorgeous on that day, her vocal sounded a bit disconnected. What I really mean is, she phrased the song so carefully and added so many breaks in between and minimised transitions between registers, just to avoid any rasps and cracks. This is quite obvious when she sang Hero with Pavarotti. She even kept her use of head voice/falsetto to a minimum, and I guess she was trying avoid any cracks between the transitions of chest/head. Overall, she sounded great that day but I could tell she was nervous AF when she sang Hero with Pavarotti, like she was holding back a lot until the bridge kicked in.
Her voice was raspy that day, watch the undubbed performances and it's more evident.
Anyway, she gave her all in each rendition.
Regarding Hero, I think she wanted to do the song in full voice 'cause she was trying to match Luciano's approach to the song.
Her ad-libs were done in a lighter voice, but she was using her chest voice in the verses and of course she went off during the climax, she even darkened her voice and added a heavier vocal approach.
These performances were great given her vocal condition during that Era. She was raspy but well rested.
