As a fan, I think Mariah thrived in talking about her sorrows. I remember looking back at how she said "Can't Take That Away" was pretty much reflective of how she felt about her current situation and then she releases a video of her in the skinniest of outfits with those fake acting tears (and let's not forget that alternate edit where her short top gets wet and her boobs get accentuated) Seriously? I mean, she kinda enjoys that people pay her attention when she has drama. Yes, she did go through a lot and no one is taking away her truth but she is so much of a narcissist as well.
As much as Tina Turner was able to "make money" out of her sorrows, she wasn't proud of talking about it. She didn't release a memoir and tease the public about the chapters or sold it in an overpriced bundle with her music. Imagine if Britney (who is the most talked about controversial artist right now) did that and released a memoir with a box set of her albums! LOL!
In Mariah's case, it's like she's the pied piper, she loves to string along her followers to her narrative, and of course, her narrative will be the one believed by her fans obviously. She pretty much painted everyone of those she never worked with again as a villain in her professional and personal life. She doesn't hold herself accountable for her poor decisions. I mean, you married the person who wanted to make money off of you, of course, the relationship was doomed from the start. Glitter flopped because it was horrible, not because Tommy and J. Lo conspired to make you flop.
It's far from the Tina situation where she was gaslighted and made to believe that she was useless. Tina was physically and verbally abused as compared to Mariah who couldn't write or produce what she wanted and couldn't wear what she wanted. If for anything, Mariah was able to benefit (until now) from what eventually turned out from the 1990 to 1996 years of her professional career.
