So I'm listening to Kelly Clarkson's new Christmas album again and I must say, it's actually a really good album (better than her first one).

I think that new song with Ariana could be a future classic as well as Christmas Isn't Cancelled. That Ariana duet is already above 4m on Spotify without any major push. I expect them to perform it together on the Voice at some stage this season.

There's a sonic thread between these songs and Underneath the Tree which is also a streaming monster.....very simple Christmasy instrumentals with that drum being a driving force in all these songs....the same simple forward driving drum beats that power AIWFCIY and CBPCH.

She knows what sound the public wants and gives it to them. Whereas Marah....ugh, so stubborn.

I want her to go back to that classic drum percussion sound that works so well for her at Christmas.

Yes, I would really like a Kelly Clarkson song (and she loves Mariah c'mon) . Perhaps the only way to pull Mariah back to that sound is jump on a track with Kelly LOL.

In fact, a duet with Kelly is very logical choice and could command equally strong interest as Oh Santa.

Kelly is turning into the new Mariah at Christmas, she's going all in as well.....plus she has the added bonus of being extremely visible on daytime TV and The Voice as well. Alot of exposure.

Also Leona Lewis has re-issued her Christmas album. Whilst I don't really like the new song with Ne-Yo her rendition of I Can't Have You is classic Leona, great vocals and melancholic rendition.

Mariah and Leona could also work.

Where Are You Christmas seems to have dropped off the annual Christmas playlists. It used to do quite well during the physical and digital era but doesn't seem to have the same appeal now. Lack of promotion?

Great melody. Mariah did hint that she was about to re-record this, perhaps she's saving it for the actual sequel to Mariah's Magical Christmas.

Perhaps it's better that it's not doing so well....so that when Mariah re-releases it it's fresh again.

Faith Hill's version is quite good, her opening notes screams Mariah.

....and the long lost Mariah version

Imagine if she was able to release this for How the Grinch Stole Christmas (biggest movie in the US in 2000) and was not blocked by Mottola, she would actually have a huge soundtrack hit.

I wonder if she was to release it officially whether she'll re-do the song completely or incorporate some vocals (and possibly even lyrics) from her original demo version.

Unpopular (?) opinion:

The First Noel/Born Is The King Interlude (Medley) is one of the best things Mariah has ever done.

It's one of my favorites from MCII. I've noticed that her a lot of her spiritual stuff tends to go deeply underappreciated, if not outright disliked by some lambs, so it's nice to see someone else who enjoys it.

Although One Child is hot garbage, and all of y'all who like it are nuts.

There is no demo version. She said in an interview last year(?) that she never actually recorded it. She had Maryanne record the reference vocal.

The song is a total snooze. Sorry, I know lots of people love it, but I have listened to it 10s and 10s of times and I still can't remember the melody. It's got that generic feel to it, like Leona's song for the Avator soundtrack...

AIW brings in revenue in other ways like sales of digital tracks, sales of Merry Christmas, royalties from other artistes whom covered the song (thanks Buble! Bieber!), licensing royalties, endorsements (MacDonald's, Family Island etc). She got $10M from the Walkers Crisps in 2019.

Putting aside AIW, imagine the amount of money she pulls every season with the album, the specials, the xmas shows when she was doing them before COVID, all the merch, the collabos with other big brands, her xmas movie on Netlflix. And I'm talking in a Worldwide level, not only in the US.

She has built a monstrous empire!
It doesn't even matter if AIW goes #1 at this point, it's bigger than that, SHE IS CHRISTMAS, SHE OWNS IT.

I had read that too many years ago, but there doesn't seem to be any definitive source.

Mariah's words in that interview were interesting - she said she "was a writer on that song" instead of what she usually says: "I co-wrote that song with...". That could mean something or not.

However she did say she put her demo vocal as reference, so surely she must have contributed something to the melody because why would a demo vocal be required if it was just a single line added to the song?
