In the Instagram video she says she used her own money to make Christmas videos to help promote her Christmas albums. Nobody believed in her, and now she is benefiting from her own investment. This is kinda like a big deal. Her labels are not really investing in her anymore.

I think with Mariah in terms of albums she never dissapoints. She always release quality albums, at least for me. The problem with Mariah is when she releases a one off single, they tend to have less quality. Except Almost Home!!!! What an amazing song

I get her point of having a budget and ask for some production, but maybe putting your make-up artist (it's what she sais in the vid) on the bill is something she can let go. But she has money enough to invest on her career. If alternative artists can do it with zero budget she can do it. And I guess she's going this route when she's taping the behind the scenes, publishing behind her own name. At the same that gives her the freedom to do what she wants

I know what you mean and I would have normally wholeheartedly agree in the past but now that I think about it I lowkey disagree.

At the end of the day, if her contract doesnt stipulate promotion, then she isn't obliged to do it and/or if they want her to, then they should foot (part of) the bill, including what is required of her to do the promotion.

By the way, note that her normal background singers arent in the Apple special -- this may be one reason why.

Alternative artists choosing to pay for their own team is a choice - an exploitative one perhaps.

That's because she is less of a savvy business person. That hustle she's over with and thus she still needs all the trappings of luxury, that's why it's expensive doing stuff with her because she literally needs a whole team to help her walk (you get the idea).

The thing is, she can do things so much smarter and more frugal on less of a budget with higher quality. She doesn't need a Joseph Kahn for every video and when you do something special like MMWCT make it count.

I think less is more. Focus your investments and energy on that project that will get you maximum exposure and success rather than many smaller amateur-like projects and releases.

She can also combine projects. i.e. that Apple was a wasted opportunity in agreeing a deal that will get a new music video for CBPCH..etc.

She has too many projects going on which gives me vibes of spreading things too thinly, too much bread less topping is not always good.
