It’s crazy that three days ago we didn’t even know that this song existed!

i’m so puzzled by the mixing on different formats. On Twitter, YouTube, and even on my phone speaker, the mixing on her vocals sounds off. Not sure if her vocals sound dry, or if it’s something else, but I feel bad that that’s what causes hurtful comments on social media. Because she doesn’t deserve to see that, especially on 3/27.

HOWEVER, with headphones, the version I bought and am streaming sounds great! No mixing issues whatsoever, her vocals pop, and the song is really fun.

Not a fan of the vocals… sorry. It’s too dry and nasal. I think she was either ill or this is her new way of avoiding any rasps while singing in such a high key. I wonder how the remix would have sounded like if she whispered through the 1st first.

Having said that though, I think the off-sounding of the remix is mostly attributed to how her vocals were mixed and processed in the studio (remember the before and after video of Thirsty and Heavenly?), and I can imagine the unprocessed vocals probably weren’t that bad, especially she could still sing in such a high key with vibrato.

I love the adlibs, which flows really well throughout the song. The opening and ending whistles are cute too. But honestly, DJ Khaled kind of ruined the song. His adlibs, or screaming, or whatever that is adds no value to the song. And the production is just somehow off, that to me the remix sounds unfinished and rushed.

I tuned into the YouTube premiere which I assumed would be a music video but ended up being a visualizer instead… while still dealing with the emotions of what went down at the Oscars, so… idk if I was feeling the remix right away.

but after downloading it on iTunes and listening to the version on Apple Music, I like it a lot! Stays close to the original while incorporating Fantasy and Mariah’s background vocals.

I will be streaming and hoping for its success. Hope a video comes out soon / next week!

Listening for the 10th time. I think it's cute and I hope it's a hit but...

Her verse singing the same key as the original make me feel that she's in pain. I could feel that she's trying so hard to nail it and I think that's why her voice seem so dry. Not even the melismas are fluid. Fantasy is all about fluidity and fun...

It's obvious her voice changed and she should embrace it. I wish she sang using a different melodic line, with lower tone or even whisper voice. Even though I know some lambs would destroy her if she didn't belt those verses. Maybe she could've save a couple of belts for the ending, but again, in a different melody.

And maybe I'm being over critic and I need some sleep.

Exactly! I wish she didn't sing the verses in the original melody and key. She can't even do the proper vibrato in those high notes anymore. And the editing and mixing didn't help either...

She still has the agility, the technics, the breathing... We saw it in Caution. It's the high pitch that is the issue here.

I'm not going to dwell on it, but even the Little Snowman isn't impressed with those vocals (or anything else tbh)

I swear it's a style/studio/engineering choice though, because Mariah sounded nothing like that on Caution or the Caution tour.

I hope it does well, but this is a hard pass for me.
