given the fact that the song (AIWFCIY) has sold over 3,5 million digital tracks in the USA and around 3 million units in Japan... I'd say yes. LC has great sales too... and was THE STANDARD in Europe for almost 20 years... but... ever since the digital advent, AIWFCIY has surpassed it - much more if streaming is factored in.

Both songs are flirting with 20 million consumption sales though. And both songs are head and toe above anything else, except for the original White Christmas which is estimated as having sold something between 30-50 million units globally.

I capped off my 2020 by getting dumped by my boyfriend, who in turn tried to strangle and eventually shot the woman he left me for before shooting himself in the chest. Both survived, and I'm just...I don't even know WTF I am. This happened on Halloween. And no, he's no roughneck. He's just a highly unstable individual, and I was more than happy to see him leave.

I'm only sharing that here because everyone who knows me is tired of talking about it. I clearly still need to talk about it. We weren't even a thing for that long, but I have been shook by this for a hot minute. So glad I didn't move in like he wanted.

Your situation sounds like it must have been terrifying. Do you still have anxiety because of it? It is always worth investing in counseling if you can. I am a big believer in it, and what you went through sounds like more than anyone should have to deal with. I am glad you are physically well and no one passed away.

              • AIWFCIY powers into the Top 20 globally with a whopping 32% increase over yesterday and baloons to 45% increase over the same Saturday last year Globally. It has smashed past the 2m barrier and reached it 7 days earlier than last year (11/28/2019).

This year, it's Saturday's (and Sundays likely) are much stronger than last year and makes up for a more muted increase mid-week. Last Christmas is the closest competitor globally with 2,050,352 (#32), Santa Tell Me 1,661,280 (#53).

In the US, it recorded a more modest 24% increase over yesterday though still a strong 40% above the same day last year. It launches back into the Top 20 and passed pretty much all the new BTS and Megan Stallion album releases from yesterday. The closest competitor is Brenda Lee (579,847, #24), Jingle Bell Rock (549,907, #28) so she's not alone and the Christmas competition is red hot.

In the UK it's just incredible, she's now inside the Top 5 with a humungous 43% increase over yesterday and 59% higher than the same day last year. It's now just 68k streams away from the top spot....she won't do it this week....but next week? Her power can surprise. We'll see. She's not alone in the Top 10, Last Christmas is not far behind with 305,408 (#6) and Buble's It's Beginning to Look...at 230,29 (#10). So 3 Christmas songs already inside the Top 10.

None of Mariah's other Christmas tunes have yet entered the charts however.

                • Enjoy this momment everyone, there may well be a time when AIWFCIY ceases to be the Top Christmas Song.....tastes and moods change, and a viral momment from any of the existing classics could well dethrone her.

I'm happy seeing her smash like this the past few years. It just keeps getting bigger and bigger each year....though I do wonder what she can really do to top the past two seasons. 25th Anniverssary was executed very well...and this year she has the biggest TV special in her career. I mean she surely can't top this again next year.

I think the only think that can top it is if she launches a musical or another big movie tie-in or a movie based on AIWFCIY with some big names cast.

The novelty will wear off so i'm very interested to see how she will sustain this season on season.

AIWFCIY never seemed this big until the last 3 years.

                    • Amazing numbers.

                      US Spotify #17 (=) 698,281
                      US iTunes #33
US Apple #78 (re-enter) *only Xmas song in the chart

The gap with the other Xmas song is still high, not only on Spotify but also on Apple and YT.

                      • Still don't get why they have JHUD on Oh Santa, if they wanted to smash hard with that song they should've left her off and have a Mariah x Ariana momment. Duets normally do better than triplets on the charts and song cohesion.

If she wanted a triplet momment, I think she could've gone with Katy Perry (who also honored her in last year's AIWFCIY dedication)

Imagine the social media meltdown when you have the biggest pop star of 1990 with the biggest pop star in the early 2010s and the current pop darling. It will surely be a momment. Yes Katy Perry can't sing but she will bring in the curiosity. Yes Katy is passed her prime but her name still commands some talk (well at least much more than JHUD)

I also wouldn't mind these combinations in my dreams.

                        Mariah x Ariana x Britney - 90s, 00s, 10s combined
Mariah x Ariana x Rihanna - Mariah and the two 'anas

the song has been a staple ever since the advent of digital music consumption - when the song was made available to the public.

Remember, it topped the BB sales chart in 2005, it also went top 10 in 2006 and then continued to sell at the top 20 level often surpassing 300,000 digital copies per year when digital music sales were beginning to dominate.

So, between 2003-2013 - the digital era - the song was a staple and the biggest selling Christmas song during any of those years - with or without promotion.

From 2014 - 2020 - the streaming era - the song has gradually topped that market as well - indicating that there is currently no one else coming close to its dominance and popularity.

One could say that the song has been the top Christmas song for the past 20 years. So, I'm not sure why you think that despite the proof of it dominating, airplay, digital and streaming (the past 3 charts-relevant eras of music consumption) it will suddenly stop in the near or far future.

If not being #1... it will very well remain in the top 3 bc AIWFCIY has inserted itself into the canon and you cannot change the canon that easily. People will continue to use the song - as much as they are using all the other classics.

It is the new songs which have to built themselves up and show undying support by the general public. So, I really can't see why AIWFCIY would suddenly be banished to the shadows of the forgotten when there is no indication (for 20 years now) that the song will or even could wane.

It starts massively increasing and becoming her 2nd biggest song in streaming by August every single year and then surpassing WBT to become her biggest song in streaming in the second week of September.

It is also a song which never leaves the Itunes charts in almost a dozen countries. It has been charting in countries like Spain, Hungary or Greece throughout the year 2020 (Itunes store) and remains her top selling track throughout the year (except she is releasing something new).

And it is not just AIWFCIY anymore, Mariah actually has 3 or 4 major Christmas classic on her hands, her cover of O Holy Night and Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) are either outstreaming the originals or became the staple themselves, replacing their original counterparts - yes Darlene Love is still having the go-to-version of her original track (Christmas Baby Please Come Home), but only directly before Christmas, weeks before that, Mariah's version is the most popular. And that is also a testament to her incresible Christmas album which is becoming a staple in its own right as well. Hell, her version of Silent night will crack 1m daily streams as well this season (when we get closer to Christmas).

I'm not saying it will be banished to the netherealm i'm referring to the momment when it will not be the #1 Christmas song.

Yeah. Like stop complaining. I love JHud and I love her inclusion.

Mariah said that they've been planning this Xmas Special since last year, remember that the movie "Respect" was due to be released around December this year (before COVID-19), her profile would've been quite high at this time if it hadn't been postponed till 2021, it was a win-win moment for the two, plus JHud is an amazing vocalist and very respectable in the music industry.

Plus this collabo with Ariana it might not be the only one. If they both had real chemistry (can't wait for some interviews!) they can collabo again in one of their upcoming albums. Ariana has collaborated with Minaj & Abel more than once. And if it not, this was a gift for us that we never have tought it could have happened.
