    I want Rhythm Nation 2.0
I reckon something like that could do amazingly well in this day and age.

Janet has already departed from Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis and prooved that her new material, with new and up to date producers were not enough to bring her to the top of the charts.

Janet only needs to be loyal to herself: I'd like to see a "Velvet Rope" part II with deep songs and ballads as singles. Because she's seen like a dance club artist and people forget her R&B ballads are masterpiece.

If she would realase something like "That's the Way Love Goes", something simple and envolving, critics would embrace her, and a sucefull single would bring a sucefull album, with another one #1 debut!

Promotion is something very important that Janet can't stop suddently. She won't get sponsors if they're going to loose money due to "scheduled conflicts" and cancelated concerts.

A new label of her own is also very important. Now, there will be no one to blame but Janet. I'm surte I'll buy her new material, but I'm not sure about the fans that were left handled waiting for concerts that turned cancelled with no justification. Let's see what tomorrow will bring.

RN 1814 is still one of my fave Pop/R&B albums EVER! Every track brilliant.

I said it before and I agree with Loverboy if Janet creates her own label it's going to show how much she wants to be in the game, should be interesting..
Getting back with Jimmy and Terry might be a step in the right direction and Darkchild would be good but honestly JD should step away and let Janet regain control of her career.
Give me a mix of "RN","VR","Janet" and "A4U" and i'll be more than thrilled.

                  She needs to go nowhere.
Nah, she needs to fix up or go away. She's just become like Madonna, with some R&B thrown in, and less success lately...

Perfect! I want another flop album, selling like 120k in the first week and a total of 260k after dissapear from the charts...

I'm sorry, but it's so hard to think that she's gonna comeback successfully. Every album comes out sooner than the predecessor, she never takes some time for reload some energy...

Anyway, I want a huge comeback, but it's hard...
BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN & BARBRA STREISAND celebrating their 9th #1 albums this year. Still making history...

Well she won't be chucked over for a new Mimi album next time which was really inexcusable.
Under her own steam and without label constraints we'll see what kind of artist Janet wants to be.
"Discipline" was her most consistent album in years so hopefull she'll keep the momentum and do the promo she needs to do without any cancellations etc.

I dont think thats how it happened she was having trouble with the label before Mariah's album was even out mainly due to conflicts with single choices. Lets not make excuses, Janets heart really wasn't in it she wanted out. And how much I liked Discipline, it was never gonna be this huge hit.

I do think its good to get back with JJ and TL as they've had classics but people expect them to drastically change her luck and make this amazing album, I personally think its down to whether Janet it is in the zone or not I mean they were on Damita jo that wasn't that long ago. She needs something either fresh or retro with a modern twist and she needs to start properly singing again

Yeh but look back when the listening parties were happening they were promoting both Mimi and J at the same time! Surely thats a conflict of interest?
Sure Janet isn't considered as a-list as she used to be but she's still a huge artist and the whole 2 for one thing that was going on is a little insulting to both women "we know you really want one, but we're gonna tack the other one as well"

Janet is completely to blame for some of the lax promo though. I mean cancelling SNL?!?! Come on, It's not like she's renowned for singing live and truth be told you can still dance and mime with the flu. Getting miffed at the label when things don't go your way and pulling out of promo isn't diva behaviour it's self sabotage for some one who isn't necessarily at the top of their game.

I do however believe in Janet amd the label should've as well. She knows the game and she knows her fans so to not at least consider her suggestions is insulting.

As I've said before I think her own label is the best thing for Janet right now. It will show us, for better or worse, what kind of artist she wants to be and if she still has the drive and genious that we as fans know is there.

On "DJ" and "20 Y.O" there's glimpses of brilliance but I think "Discipline" started to pull it together again as a more listenable album where on the previous 2 i skip a heap of tracks. The whole sex thing seems to alienate people further and further so maybe a break from it will serve her well.
Happy endings are just stories that haven't finished yet...

OT but I made my own "Design Of A Decade Part 2" covering the "Velvet Rope" to "Discipline" eras (as the first collection covered most of the early stuff):

                                1. All For You (radio edit)
                                2. Gone ‘Til It’s Gone

                                11. Go Deep

                                16. Luv
                                17. Doesn’t Really Matter (album version with dance breakdown)
                                18. Call On Me (Featuring Nelly)
                                19. Together Again (album version)

                                  Its really good!!!

I feel really sorry for Janet - she has some really good material, but then decides to throw so much filler with it, and it just makes her album listening process so lethargic and silly.

Looking at this tracklist it just shows how strong her catalogue is and thats not even inlcuding the earlier classics. She can make a really strong album she just has to make it consistent. I love janet

That collection is quite good. But remember that "Design of a Decade" only included "That's the Way Love Goes" from "janet." There are other 5 Top 10 hits from that album that were not included on her 1995 compilation. So, definitely those should be included if Virgin releases a Janet's "GHV2". Anyway, if a new compilation is released, I'm pretty sure it's gonna be a career retrospective. Sometime ago I published the one I made in December 2007. Take a look.

It's called ALL THE BEST, it contains 3 discs: Disc 1 & 2 of hits listed chronologically, and Disc 3 full of rarities, B-sides, duets and 1 "previously unreleased" track ("Could this be love", which leaked on internet in 2004 but was never officially released ).

Look at the tracklisting and tell me what you think.

                                      DISC 1
                                      1. What have you done for me lately (single edit) 3.32
                                      2. Nasty (edit of remix) 3.43

"Whoops Now" was included on the UK version too, so two singles from the "Janet" era on that one. I was going to include all the singles from that era too but they wouldn't have fitted, so decided to go with "Velvet Rope" onwards...

OK. But, who wants to listen to "With U" or "Luv" when "Again" or "Any Time, Any Place" could be in? :-?

Me! ;) I was pretty much a late Janet fan from the "All For You" era onwards and have since gone back... on a proper 2/3CD collection, it'd be different but I just made the CD as a follow on from "Design of A Decade".

Discipline was a fine solid effort but the marketing & promotion outside of the USA was shocking. I still think she should have released a 2nd best of before it to remind everyone what she can do. She released a DVD in 2004 called From janet to Damita Jo featuring all the videos from janet, The Velvet Rope, All For You and Damita Jo... there should been have a CD release too.

But whatever she does next she needs to drag her ass to somewhere other than the US for promotion and stick to a decent tour. Don't announce dates then cancel like she did recently!!

Oh and give Jermaine Dupri the heave ho. The So So Def stuff was great back in the late 90's but musically it's not right for Janet right now. Jam & Lewis and Darkchild are all she needs!

I wish people would stop saying this now, JD didn't even do much on the last album and LA reid was in charge of the album. I agree she doesnt really mesh well with JD but people love to shift the blame but its Janet thats not been on her A game. JD wasnt on Damita Jo at all and that was still a dissapointment, All for you was good for what it was but still sub par and that was Jam and Lewis all over lets behonest Janets not been the Janet people really knew and loved since TVR era

Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis can give her good album songs, but they can't give her a Fresh single right now. Darkchild is good as well but Janet should work with some other people.

There are so many producers out there that can really give her a good 1st radio single, while allowing JJ&TL the chance to provide the bulk of the album. I would love to hear Janet with The Outsyders,Rich Harrison,Swiss Beatz,Brian Kennedy.
