All of these are good songs but they are all terrible single choices. Radar would’ve been a good one for Blackout but yeah.

      • FTBOMBH is not a bad song Itself, but it’s probably her most boring, uninteresting single ever, and easily one of her most forgotten singles EVER. It should have stayed as an album track.

The funny thing is that Britney was so powerful that a proper physical single release in USA was enough to make that boring song peak at #14 on the Billboard Hot 100 ….. Now imagine had she been given proper physical releases to her more interesting singles from back in the day (Sometimes, Crazy, Oops, Lucky, Slave, etc)

Right?? She had "I Will Be There" and decided to go with FTBOMBH. What was the reason???? The granny outfit she wears in the video was perfect for that boring song.

Well at least people got a sneak peek of Britney Houston thanks to that song.

          • Also I love her version of "I Love Rock N Roll" so much but damn it did not have to be a single at all. BUT…it did give us one of the hottest videos ever. She has probably never looked better.

The thing is that the BOMT singles were all selected in advanced before the album was even printed. It was all decided in advanced.

Why FTOMBH and not “I Will Be There”? It seems like they wanted a ballad (to showcase a different side of Britney) as the final single and went for FTBOMBH (which had a more soulful AC vibe) for USA and BTMYH (which was more poppy- dancey-ballad) for Europe.

But yeah, “I Will Be There” was the obvious 5th / final single. . . . Oh, and about the granny outfit for the boring non-eventul granny music video for FTBOMBH , well it may be interesting for you to know that the music video was directed by a retired Porn director (which caused controversy at the time). Like why a porn director ended up directing a Britney video and that one in particular remains the most random thing ever.

                    • So I just found out that that former porn director also directed this Mandy Moore video.

They couldn’t find anyone else to direct the music videos for teen pop girlies at the time?

                      • ^ Mandy Candy’s label were trying to get their own Britney and emulate everything she did but they didn’t have enough budget to pull the same things Britney did …. So they were probably like: “What can we follow that Britney did and that fits our budget?” …. “Let’s try that porn director Britney had, we can afford his low (“porn level”) rates and Mandy will be the next Britney”!

                          • Can we actually talk about the “lost” lead single “Mona Lisa” from the only “lost” album of her career (“Original Doll”)?

… “Mona Lisa” was literally Britney the creative artist all the way. The dark song is about the fall and destruction of a legend and a response Britney had to the way executives were depraving her essence. The demo version is even darker lyrically.

On December 30th, 2004 Britney presented to KIIS-FM radio station to announce the song as the lead single of her then upcoming studio album which she said was probably going to be titled “Original Doll” … and proceeded to premiere the demo version of “Mona Lisa” on radio. A song she dedicated to all the legends and icons out there.

In the following days a Jive Records representative announced to media that neither the song or the album were going to be released.

With the album being scrapped Britney then included the studio final version of “Mona Lisa” on the “Chaotic EP”. So far, this is the only confirmed and known song from the “Original Doll” recording sessions

                            Final and official version:

                            Demo version:

                            ———

Guys I cannot imagine the slayage of this being the lead single of her project, the message behind the song was so epic and strong.

Even though the album plans fell she still found a way to release it (on the Chaotic EP) and a part of me wishes that she would have released “Mona Lisa” as the single from “Chaotic” instead of “Someday (I Will Understand)” , even though I know “Someday” made more sense for her back then after she found out of her pregnancy.

I won’t dig on “Original Doll” …. But I have my personal theory about what happened that specific day Britney showed up to that Radio Station with the Demo CD in her hands.

Because of the way Britney showed to the radio station (un-announced, without her label knowing anything, without her management team, and basically a surprise visit) I’m inclined to believe Britney already knew neither “Mona Lisa” or the album were going to be released and that was her rebellious act against that fact and her way to f*ck the executives.

My theory is that Britney spent months recording songs and working on the project and once she presented the material she was working on to her label they declined it, probably like “That’s not the direction we’re looking for, we won’t release this, go and record something else”. . . So knowing that there wasn’t much more she could do about it she decided that she was still going to make her message and art heard.

So she woke up, showed up to the radio station knowing her label wouldn’t be releasing anything and had her way of premiering the song on radio so people could still hear what she had to say with her music at that time …. She then left the radio station (likely satisfied) and moved on. That’s all she wanted, her message to be heard.

That particular moment was Britney being an exentric artist.
