Madonna once said she never saw herself being a popstar in her 40s/50s ha.
It doesn’t sound like Madonna because Madonna has never done anything big that celebrates her career. Personally I think she’ll happily bow out of the music industry and retire from touring when she feels the time is right - she may be the Queen of pop, but she’s not the sort of popstar that sits around writing songs every day like Prince or MJ did. She’s not that type of artist and she’s not consumed by music in the same way they are. She’s called what she does her job and frankly, I believe that’s how she sees it quite a lot of the time.
From what we know, Madonna mostly just writes songs on demand - her collaborators have said before that she likes to write one song a day when in the studio and that initially they think it’s impossible but that she wins them over when the goods happen.
Nor does she write a hit song then decide to keep it for later - I was just reading how MJ, for example, recorded Earth Song in the 80s and didn’t get around to using it until 1995.
No, I think her decline in releasing music over the last decade has demonstrated a declining interest in new music actually. If I’m honest, the last time I heard her sound excited about her own music was COADF. I know she’s had a busy 10 years but she shows no signs of getting faster at releasing new music - the gaps between albums keeps getting bigger and bigger.
As I said a few pages ago, with her directing a movie next (after a supposed tour for this album) it’s very possible she might not even get back into the studio for M15 until 2024. If we assume 2020 is going to be set aside mostly for touring, then she won’t get into movie pre-production until late 2020, won’t get it shot until 2021 and won’t be released until Q4 2022 (if it’s good) or Q1 2023 (if it’s not so good). We will probably then get a promo tour asking about new music and she’ll probably say she intends to enter the studio in 2023 which means a probable 2024 release.
The thing to remember is the movie can’t be rushed by her (nor delayed by her) because she’s been hired to direct. This isn’t like WE where it’s literally her movie - this is like her signing back up with Warner and them demanding a new album. As far as the movie is concerned, she’s a studio employee and she won’t have full control over the time table - and a studio won’t rush production or editing because Madge feels a need to get back into the studio.
So 2024. It’s going to be hell.,I have a bad feeling about this.

This isn’t WE - it’s a big studio movie. Madonna may be director but she is not in charge of this production. She has producers and studios execs to answer to.
The script isn’t written, but they have until the end of the tour to do that. Casting hasn’t started as it’s not in pre-production and the studio may be willing to wait for a big name - Madonna has to work to the studios schedule not her own like on WE.
Unlike WE it’s possible the studio may decide pickups are needed, and I doubt Madonna has final cut so the studio could demand multiple edits are produced until they are happy.
Realistically she will need to dedicate 2 years to this project and if we assume M14 lasts until April 2020 (and give her a few months off until her birthday), I’d not expect this movie to start pre-production until September 2020.
Madonna’s albums now take about a year to record so even if she works on the movie until August 2022, my guess is she’ll spend 2023 recording. It’s possible we might then get something in 2023 to celebrate her 40th anniversary to tide us over (like a first album remaster and special edition) and no doubt we’ll get a tour dvd/album in 2021.
Then once the movie is finished it doesn’t mean it’ll be released instantly. Madonna will then need to take a month out at some point to do the press junkets - no doubt the studio expect her to promote the movie. I wouldn’t be surprised if she hasn’t offered to put an original song into it and try to finally land herself an Oscar - it’s criminal she cocked up with Masterpeice.
Throw in the fact she’s a single parent with small kids to raise, will have teenagers to deal with and not to mention a personal life amongst it all (and dare I say it, becoming a grandmother at any point) and her slate is full.
She hasn’t even directed a movie between RH and M14 and it’s still taken 4 years.I have a bad feeling about this.

Dude, I know what I'm talking about. On average a good editor can do at least a minute of final edited movie footage a day. For a 120 minute movie that's 4 months. If the production was well organized and there aren't any messy situations, it is not a rarity to even have 2 minutes of finished final footage per day's work. It's a drama movie, not an action/fantasy/sci-fi which needs additional time for VFX effects team to do their work etc.

She isn't writing the script, she won't be 100% hands on during post because there's a team for that who do their job. Of course she will have to check if she wants to be a hands on director, but she definitely doesn't need to show up every day for editing, scoring etc. - maybe once a week or even in two weeks to check the progress, give notes, discuss. There's a reason why editors also have their own category in movie awards. They actually do a lot of the stuff on their own you know. So if she wants there's definitely time to put some studio work in between. She did multiple studio recording sessions for M14 and from what we know none of those were extra long (1-2 weeks). So she could do the same interspersed recording for M15 while doing the movie.
But yeah, as you say she has a family and she seems more willing to spend time with them than being a full time pop star like she used to before. Guess we will just have to see.
I really think (actually I know) you're overestimating the timeline and overstating that she needs to be written off musically completely while she's doing a movie. A Star Is Born started filming at the end of April 2017 and at one point WB was set to release it in May 2018, then pushed it back to September/October (and not because it wouldn't be finished in time, we can safely say now they moved it to awards season because they realized its potential). So that's only a year for the complete production and post-production! And there are many many more examples of big studio (drama, pls don't reply to me with some VFX heavy movie like you did with her video for 4 Minutes) movies that went from filming to theatrical release in about a year.

Madonna to Receive GLAAD’s Advocate For Change Award
LGBTQ advocacy organization GLAAD has announced plans to honor Madonna with their Advocate for Change Award at the 30th annual GLAAD Media Awards. Reserved for public figures who have dedicated their work to advocating for LGBTQ rights, Madonna is the second person to receive the honor after Bill Clinton in 2013.
The GLAAD Media Awards honor artists, journalists, film and television programs and other forms of media for fair and inclusive representations of the LGBTQ community. The ceremony will take place over two days beginning on March 28 in Los Angeles and culminating with the presentation of Madonna’s honor in New York City on May 4.
Madonna has made innumerable contributions to LGBTQ visibility, including her continued employment and support of LGBTQ backup dancers, speaking out against bullying of LGBTQ youth and related suicide, and boycotting the Boy Scouts of America for their LGBTQ-exclusionary policies (to name a few).
“Madonna always has and always will be the LGBTQ community’s greatest ally,” said Sarah Kate Ellis, GLAAD’s president and chief executive. “From the HIV crisis to international LGBTQ issues, she fearlessly pushes for a world where LGBTQ people are accepted. Her music and art have been life-saving outlets for LGBTQ people over the years and her affirming words and actions have changed countless hearts and minds.”I have received many gifts from God,

hehe well five of 9 tracks are singles so
i mean.. at first i was so enjoying the first half of the album and started losing interest toward the rest of it, but having listened to the album (along with TFA and LAV) i'll just blame it on Love Makes The World Go round.. i just don't like the ..samba/brazilian vintage production..sounds corny to me. However, again, i love the message she's still put in her music (same as Over And Over)
i could see "her growth" in her sound in TB far more than in LAV, i love how 80's yet diverse the album is, how it's differently influenced. i have to give it to Live To Tell though of course, i was on cloud 9 for a few days listening to iti've learned it was her lead single for TB and composed for the album, but how do you guys perceive the record? i'd really be interested to hear
i'll just rank True Blue
01 Papa don't preach / Live to tell (i quite franky can't pick, i've also watched LTT performance @ confesisons tour)
02 La isla bonita (i'm not sure i put it here because it's a good or the fact i was little when i heard it thus having a nostalgic attachement)
03 Open your heart / White heat (again, can't seperate, on a personal note -strangely- OYH sounds to me closer to her later work)
04 Jimmy jimmy (simple but fun track i enjoyed, easy to follow)
05 True blue (sorry? perhaps the title track and the album theme but for some reason is flowing against my blood. i'm reliefed when la isla bonito plays after it)
06 Love makes the world go around (great message, great performance though @ Live at Aid)
overall, i love the album so much, for now i'll stick to my words of first half being strong and la isla bonita saving the second (for me)
*i stumbled across this film called Madonna: Innocence Lost so i watched it anyway. i also watched the Jane Pauley interview but i dont seem to find plenty others

This is probably Madonna at her most pop - it all changes after this. Before you move onto Like a Prayer definitely check out her 4 songs on the ‘Who’s That Girl?’ OST and her remix album ‘You Can Dance’ - they all round off Madonna’s pure pop era and the end of Madonna’s time as a simple popstar... everything afterwards was about becoming an artist.
My favourite has always been Open Your Heart and I pray one day she’ll do a great performance of it on tour - as much as I enjoy the version on MDNAT, I need more energy.
My least favourite is slightly controversial and it’s LAB. I must say I don’t dislike it at all, but it’s much, much better live and has some amazing reinventions. The studio version is a tad too mellow for me.I have a bad feeling about this.

I really want a proper Papa Dont Preach performance on the next tour. The BAT was the last time she performed it how the song deserves to be performed. Live to Tell would be nice to bring back as well but she will never be able to do a performance as good as Confessions so I know people will automatically judge it negatively.

My review:
Papa Don't Preach:
When I bought the album, Papa Don't Preach was high on the charts so it was a favorite of mine back then. Still love it. Great opening. Love the intro.
Open Your Heart:
To me, this sounded like it could have been on Like A Virgin. I like it, but it has never been a favorite. Great video though.
White Heat:
Really loved it back in the day. Could imagine it having a great video.
Live To Tell:
I was really surprised when this was released as the first single as it was so different than anything she had released till that point. I did love it right from the start.
Where's The Party:
Nowadays I always play the You Can Dance version. It's so much better IMO.
True Blue:
This has been one of my all time favorite Madonna songs since the very first day I heard it. This is such a sweet song. I just prayed it would become the next single and I was thrilled when my dream came true. I also love the single remix and the 12" mix. Also, the video is one of my most favorite ever.
La Isla Bonita:
This is another song I loved soooooo much right from the start. I love those sweet songs like True Blue, La Isla Bonita, Cherish... There are so few songs like these. I was hoping it would be a future single, though I was wondering if it wouldn't be too different for the charts. Then when Micaela had a hit in Europe with her cover version, I was afraid Madonna wouldn't release it as a single. Really happy she did though and it became one of her biggest hits. It was on radio and tv all the time and for a while I didn't like it anymore as I had heard it way too often. Now it's a favorite of mine again.
Jimmy Jimmy:
Such a fun song. It was one of the favorites of most of my class mates back then. It's so catchy and I thought it would make a great single as everybody seemed to love it so much. I'm always amazed how most fans don't seem to like it (anymore). Although I like it, it's never been a favorite of mine.
Love Makes The World Go Round:
I had played the live version from Live Aid soooo many times, but then when I heard this studio version, I went out of my head. Loved it so much! So much clearer and more fun than the live version. Great message too. Although I still like it, it's not among my favorites anymore.Prayed through the nights, Felt so alone, Suffered from alienation, Carried the weight on my own, Had to be strong, So I believed, And now I know I've succeeded in finding the place I conceived, I had a vision of love...
