Honestly, she did show she cared just by doing the song. It's not a theme that would bring her closer to the US audience, just the opposite. US likes their guns so obviously she's not chasing for approval there anymore but wants to voice her opinion. And she did a pretty good video for it.
She also talked in her interviews how she loves working with Mirwais because their talk is always about the world, social environment, politics, so maybe he just showed her what he was doing with a song about gun control, she liked it and they finished the song? Nothing wrong with that. Casey didn't even know the song by its title, he only recognized it was the song her worked on (and I find it amusing he's trying to get so much when he posted screenshots of him saying that Mirwais had a clear idea and concept of what he wanted and basically came to him with a done thing, he just cleaned up his awkward English language and sang the demo - that's more like a ghost writer/producer thing to do). The fact God Control didn't ring a bell to him at all points that the song outside from the intro in question is something completely new (note that the demo cuts off right where the intro ends).

I kinda felt the same in the past with “Nothing fails” and “Masterpiece” — her contribution there was minimal. This time around it makes me think Madonna’s only lyrical addition to “God Control” was probably the “people think that I’m insane...” line and the “Wake up” bit. If at all. I truly hope I’m being unfair to her.
Is there anything wrong with that? Absolutely not as long as you are honest in your interviews and say “well this song was written by someone else but I felt so strong about it blah blah” as opposed to saying she wrote this or that and only added a word and her name to the credits.
Still a M fan and have been for decades but just calling it like it is...the way M used to.

Madonna said in a statement, “Please forgive this unexpected turn of events. Doing my show every night brings me so much joy and to cancel is a kind of punishment for me but the pain I’m in right now is overwhelming and I must rest and follow doctor’s orders so I can come back stronger and better and continue the Madame ❌ journey with all of you.”

But now it’s off putting to realize that M just added her name to the songs as a writer when someone else actually wrote the song. Makes it feel kinda sterile...

Originally posted by beredy View PostDavid Bowie's Blackstar is easily one of his best albums and it was released 49 years after his debut album. I'm sure there are more artists who released great albums in later stages of their life. This year's Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds Ghosteen has gotten such rave reviews, even slightly better than 2016's Skeleton Tree which was lauded as the band's best album at that time. It comes 35 years after first Bad Seeds release and 40 years after Nick Cave's first studio releases. So there's always that spark even in old horses. I still feel and believe Madonna can pull another great album.
The bigger problem with spiritboy's post is that it's a fanboy expectation and Madonna has never recorded albums that would pander to what her fans want from her. Sure, pop/dance/electronica has been her safe zone often, but even with Confessions she released something not many fans would expect post AL. Hard Candy/MDNA/Rebel Heart were all trend chasing albums and Madonna seemed more interested in touring and getting her contract fulfilled than recording a proper high quality album as a way to express her artistic self at that point (like with all the albums before them). Madam X is a return to having something to say. I hope that she continues with that mindset and I don't care if that takes her into pop/dance/electronic or jazz/funk or back to R'n'B or whatever. Genre is not important to me. And expecting that her future project is some kind of pop/dance record is quite honestly just a setup that will build into years of disappointment once she finally releases her next album.
+1 I agree BTW Blackstar was an impeccable album: title track, Lazarus, I Can’t Give..., etc. the videos were awe-mazing

Speaking of underrated tracks such as Shanti, Cyberraga was another gem. Madonna at one of her many peaks.
