                  • Vocally, 4 is her best hands down. That's what I missed in this new album. I just played "I Care", "Start Over" and "Love on Top" for a whole day within this week and those brilliant vocals are what's absent in the new era. :-? :-?

                        • From Billboard:
The Challenger space shuttle exploded shortly after liftoff in 1986, and all seven crew members aboard were killed.

Current and former NASA astronauts, employees and Challenger family members told ABC News they were disappointed that Beyonce used audio from the tragedy in a pop song, calling the choice "insensitive."

June Scobee Rodgers, the widow of Challenger space shuttle commander Dick Scobee, told ABC: "We were disappointed to learn that an audio clip from the day we lost our heroic Challenger crew was used in the song 'XO.' The moment included in this song is an emotionally difficult one for the Challenger families, colleagues and friends. We have always chosen to focus not on how our loved ones were lost, but rather on how they lived and how their legacy lives on today."

Former NASA employee Keith Cowing added: "This choice of historic and solemn audio is inappropriate in the extreme. The choice is little different than taking Walter Cronkite's words to viewers announcing the death of President Kennedy or 911 calls from the World Trade Center attack and using them for shock value in a pop tune."

Cowing, who now runs NASAWatch.com, also tells ABC that he wants Beyonce to remove the clip and apologize to families of the Challenger crew.

Several current astronauts, who are not authorized to speak publicly, expressed their dismay to ABC News privately.

In a statement released to ABC News, Beyonce expressed her sympathies for the families of those who died in the Challenger disaster and indicated she didn't mean any offense by using the audio.

"My heart goes out to the families of those lost in the Challenger disaster. The song 'XO' was recorded with the sincerest intention to help heal those who have lost loved ones and to remind us that unexpected things happen, so love and appreciate every minute that you have with those who mean the most to you," she said. "The songwriters included the audio in tribute to the unselfish work of the Challenger crew with hope that they will never be forgotten."

                          • I did find it an odd choice when first hearing it, but it's hardly disrespectful, since all it really says is there's been a malfunction. Plus, it's been nearly 30 years since the disaster. At some point, taking offense is a bit extreme.

                              • I hadn't noticed, in all honesty... feel a bit stupid now

Even so, I'm not sure where I stand. I'm not one of the involved people so I can't honestly comment on whether or not it's really offensive, but at the same time we can be sure she did not mean to shock anyone, but rather try and use it in a good way - even if perhaps the choice of fragment was slightly untactful.

To answer the other question, 4 is definitely the answer where I think she is best, vocally! Although her most recent record also gets props for being the one where she never really resorts to near-shouting, as IMO she can sometime do on certain tracks on the other albums.

I must agree with this. I love Beyonce (single and album) but vocally, she's a beast on 4. She excels vocally on Beyonce but it's more of an artistic album ala Thriller than a vocal powerhouse.

                                              • This year beyonce went from being a Social media recluse to becoming the queen of Instagram and tumblr. Loved it!

I got a chance to properly listen to the album on a long coach journey and I must agree that 4 vocally is more impressive but there is something about this album that makes you want to listen and not miss everything. It's a more interesting listen, I found myself analysing lyrics on different levels which I've never done with a Beyonce album before, whether she writes her songs or not this album clearly relates to her life in so many ways. I also think sonically it's never boring so you are always hearing new things. My kind of album.

                                                • Another true testament to Beyonce's remarkable vocal abilities, is her ability to pull back vocally. Naturally, She's a belter with a power drive type of voice. However, with this new album, it's obvious she has mastered the ability to restrain herself from belting out, since the IASF album. It is a lot challenging to exhibit restrain , than belting out. I'm sure, when she does perform some of the songs live, she will definitely slay the vocals. Can't wait!
