4 would have underperformed even without those artists. Everyone was jumping on the EDM backwaggon (and so did she with RTW), but the rest of the album is a soul record. The album did suffer from a very poor choice of singles as well, which didn't help either. RTW was the album's Grown Woman/Formation, tucked at the end with no relation to the rest of the album.

I agree that she should have given End Of Time a chance to shine. It should've definitely been the lead single, followed by Countdown, Love On Top, Dance For You and Party.

Listening to ST. I still think it’s a crappy album. The production is top tier and the ideas are occasionally interesting, but the songs just aren’t it. There are songs I like, but others are just… ‘why?’

I do enjoy Haunted, Blow, Partition (not Yoncé), XO and Flawless, and whilst I’ve never under the appeal of Drunk In Love, I have warmed to it a little over the years.

Thankfully Lemonade was a better album, and then The Gift was better than Lemonade, and now Renaissance is probably the best of her career.

But yeah, ST is overrated

The Gift is probably like my third favourite Beyoncé album. The main issue is Beyoncé didn’t promote it, or treat it like one of her own albums (even though it basically is). Black is King being released a year later comes across as essentially an afterthought, and by then the pandemic had hit and people were just over everything (that wasn’t Harry Styles or Dua Lipa).

I think The Gift would’ve done much better, if Black is King was released at the same time or shortly after The Lion King and got some cross promotion, but I’m not sure if it’s entirely Beyoncé’s fault. Disney likely had some say in it.
But then again, Beyoncé barely joined in on the Lion King promo at all, so yeah, maybe she IS entirely to blame.
That whole era could’ve been so much bigger with a little effort.
To this day non-fans barely know of this album’s existence, and it’s such a shame considering it is one of her best.

It was really nice. Sis went off. Also REN is really that bish. Just the opening part was so boring because of all the ballads.

The closest thing we'll ever get to a Greatest Hits from Bey is Homecoming.

GH's are redundant nowadays, especially with streaming allowing you to create a playlist with your favourite songs. I'm not sure it would offer that much of a boost either. Taylor does the numbers she does because her music is accessible to all demographics and she actually bothers with marketing.

Taylor actually engages with her audience and serves them what they want. Bey literally said "let me drop this album and watch me do nothing until the tour begins (10 months later)". The fact that Rennaisance is still top 50 on Billboard 200 one year later is impressive considering how little she's done to promote it, and it shows how much it could've done if she had bothered.
