Well i'm just getting into her and i'm still waiting for her albums to arrive as I just bought them but I love her singles and think she is so talented and her tone and voice are very unique and I love that she writes and produces her own stuff. And as Sambo told us a few days ago she has never lip synced which is an amazing achievement because her songs aren't too easy to sing. I really really hope I like her albums cause no artist has even come close to appealing to me like she has in a long long time.
when she first got radio and tv attention with fallin' my brother discovered her first and he came to me and said, that I would like this new artist he had just discovered, cause she sounds like Mariah... so when I checked her out I wasn't that much impressed with her (Fallin') but when i listened to songs in a minor I realized that she was going to be a huge star.
AK is unique, she writes her own music, performs them.. she looks fantastic, is always nice..
The Diary of Alicia Keys is my favorite album from her, along with being one of my favorite albums of all-time She was so classy and cool during that period!

Unsurprisingly, I completely agree with you. There was so much attention to detail and I just love the way it flowed so seamlessly. There's so many layers to each song and every time I play it I get a completely different listening experience.

When I read all these things, I can't wait to delve into her albums!
Alicia's in my Top 5 female artists. I respect her voice, music and the fact that produces and writes her music. A real artist. I love her but I can rarely get through a whole album. I just can't. I get to a point where her voice grates on me everytime I listen to her albums. This happens to me with Mary J. and Celine as well. So I usually listen to individual songs from each album.
She has a fantastic voice and it'll be interesting to see how it develops. I noticed in live performances that it has become kinda rough but it's understandable. She's singing and overusing it for so many years now. Her piano skills are exceptional and add to her class and quality as an artist.
Here's how I'd rank her albums:
#1. The Element Of Freedom
#2. The Diary Of Alicia Keys
#3. As I Am
#4. Songs In A Minor
My favorite A. Keys album is "The Element Of Freedom". Wonderful work but admittedly less soulful than her previous albums. "Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart" is a total classic already. I love the i-Heart radio live performance. "Pray For Forgiveness" is simply stunning, "Through It All", "Un-thinkable (I'm Ready)", "Like The Sea", "Love Is Blind", "Distance And Time", "Through It All" are the other highlights on the album for me. I like the duet with Beyonce, "Put It In A Love Song" but it sounds so out of place and as I've said before, although I love Bey more than Alicia, Beyonce's presence that particular song anyway cheapens TEOF's whole vibe.
"As I Am" is also a very good album. "Teenage Love Affair" (the performance on Ellen with the "choreography" is awesome ) , "Wreckless Love", "Lesson Learned", "Prelude To A Kiss", "Where Do We Go From Here", "Saviour" are my favorites there. I despise "No One". I always found it extremely overrated. I'm glad it was a huge hit for her though.
"The Diary Of Alicia Keys" is great. So many gems in there. "If I Ain't Got You" is one of the best songs EVER recorded, the passion in her voice the music... just brilliant! "You Don't Know My Name" is outstanding and unique. I love how she breaks down the song and starts talking. It exudes soul. I love the belting after it. Other highlights: "Karma", "Diary", "When You Really Love Someone", "Medley If I Was Your Woman/Walk on By".
"Songs In A Minor" is my least favorite but it still has some terrific songs. "Fallin'" is obviously her signature song and I love it. "Rock Wit U", "Girlfriend", "Why Do I Feel So Sad", "Goodbye" are some of my favorites. My most favorite though is "How Come You Don't Call Me"! It's so dynamic, laid back and really cool. When she growls "tell me baby baby baby" I'm floored! I loooove it. Another special track is "Butterflyz" so soothing and emotional.
My favorite A. Keys video has got to be "You Don't Know My Name". I love the storyline. Also, "Teenage Love Affair" and "Un-thinkable (I'm Ready)".
I don't know what I'd like to hear on the next album. Maybe try a little bit more Blues and combine it with her trademark Soul and her latest poppier direction. I'm sure it will be a great album though, considering Alicia has only offered solid releases so far.
I hope she has a girl who looks just like her! Random...
If you don't get on the ride, you won't experience the adventure...

Great read!! I'm th exact same with Mary J and Celine aswell. But I did enjoy all of Mary J's "The Breakthrough"!
Quite impressive that 9 years on she's at her peak popularity wise, especially in the UK anyway. "Empire State Of Mind" will always be her signature song now.
Just listened to The Diary of Alicia Keys for the first time and its epic. Beatuiful melodies and beats and great vocals. I'll give a proper review when i listen to all of her albums.
She is nothing short of contemporary's music's QUEEN! She doesn't just call producers and "interpret" what they and a songwriter have put together. She composes, writes (and she really writes, not just throws her name on the credit after changing a word), produces and then performs her music brilliantly.
On top of all of that she has NEVER changed her music to fit the current trend... That alone shows she's in this for the music and that the sales and accolades are just topping on it. I am so glad that she's one artist that has not gone dance/pop/electro for the world!!!
You are beautiful in every way possible Alicia!!!
*still getting shimmers when I think of her March 2010 Baltimore concert - I remember my friend turning to me and saying "Did you feel that? It's like tingles up my spine"*
I was waiting for Bey to drop so she could show that T&A arent the only ones smashing album SALES!!!
I kinda lost interest in Alicia's music after her second studio album, her latest singles do nothing for me, though I like Empire State Of Mind but it's not in the same league with classics such as Fallin', A Woman's Worth, Butterflyz, If I Ain't Got You or You Don't Know My Name.
Her debut album is fantastic
