Dancing With The Street is okay for what it was, a throwaway track done for Live Aid, but when you consider it peaked at #7 in the US while songs like Changes, Starman, Rebel Rebel, Heroes, Ashes To Ashes and the sort didn't even go top 40 here, its a huge moment.

I had no idea those tracks were such flops in the US!!!!!! Changes, Starman, Heroes & Ashes To Ashes were hits over here I think.

Bowie was more or less a huge "cult artist" in the US in the 70's. He had a #1 with Fame, a top 10 with Golden Years and made the top 40 with Space Oddity and Young Americans but was more or less an album seller with very little single success. He didn't really have consistent success on the singles chart until the Let's Dance era.

Well that is surprising! He was quite mainstream way back when, even my mum loved him so he must have been mainstream! The UK had good taste back then it seems. Have the US ever had good taste!?

Bowie was seen as "weird" in America because of the whole Ziggy Stardust bisexual thing. Even though the irony was that Elton was the biggest star in America in the early/mid 70's and he was more flamboyant than Bowie ever was, but for some reason he wasn't seen as "threatening" as David was. Bowie didn't really get any major US success until he'd adopted a more conservative image in 75-76, but then he did Low and "got weird" and lost the US mainstream until 1983.

Oh well it was their loss, mainstream is too good for artists who want to experiment, I respect him more for doing so.

True, I think Bowie's had the last laugh, I'm not sure if he still holds it, but I remember at one point only Paul McCartney was a richer living musician. I am sure he doesn't lose sleep at night because Warszawa didn't go to #1 in the US

It's a really good track!! The track Sex & The Church is really good as well, sounds a little bit like The Pet Shop Boys! I also really enjoy the instrumental tracks on this one, really very relaxing!

I can imagine Sex & the Church being a bit of a shocker when it was released.
A bit surprising to see Wiki listing it as rock. Sounds ambient, electronic to me. I wouldn't call it rock but that's what it is apparently.

Well I don't see it as rock either but people are just no good at placing genres on music anywhere.
