  • Where Love Lives: Dance Music Discussion Thread

I’ve been meaning to start this thread for ages as I always feel on here that dance music is under-appreciated on the whole. It doesn’t do well in survivors and threads about dance songs often sink without a trace… it’s always seemed a bit sneered at on UKMIX but I know we have plenty of dance fans here.

This is a thread to celebrate dance music and everything that goes with it. With strong origins in disco, funk, soul and R&B, dance came into its own in the late 80s and has been a mainstream force ever since, with its dozens of sub-genres dominating the charts and clubs across the decades.

I named the thread after the Alison Limerick song because dance music goes hand in hand with hedonism, celebration, unity, acceptance and love. The feeling of being in a busy club with a load of strangers, all enjoying the same music, can’t be beat - hopefully we get it back soon.

So let’s discuss the classics, the club anthems, the fresh and the forgotten. Post YouTube videos and show us what you’re listening to and let’s try and raise the profile of dance music on UKMIX!

To start us off, which is your favourite version?

      Original (#27 in 1991)

Dancing Divaz remix (#9 in 1996)

I love both versions, the original has such soul and funkiness but for me the remix edges it with a faster, more urgent production and the synth stabs.

Yes, the 1996 version is the one I'd be more inclined to play these days. Sometimes originals should never be tampered with but there is also a chance they will iron out the weaknesses and improve it.

Speaking of retro Dance and updates, I played one of my favourite Trance tracks today the Superstring Rank 1 Remix. Nostalgic goodness.

That video just screams 2000… boob tunes, neons and strobes

You can’t beat a bit of trance sometimes, it’s great driving and running music. This is one of my favourites, so euphoric.

A UKMix classic but how about the original version of NIGHTCRAWLERS PUSH THE FEELING ON with audible lyrics!!

Now that should get some interest off of Google for this thread

I welcome the inevitable influx of one-post-wonders searching for Nightcrawlers lyrics now!

MK really did work some magic on his remix, taking it from an early 90s Brand New Heavies-esque lounge song and splicing it up within an inch of its life to create one of the most recognisable dance tracks of all time. In fact, its success made the Nightcrawlers (predominantly John Reid) completely scrap their sound and become a full-on dance act. They managed five more top 40 hits.

ludichris that’s a nice track, you might like this one which is quite recent.

And this, although it’s a not fully trance it has the same qualities, has been a favourite of mine this year.

Earlier a song came on my shuffle and I thought...what is this 90s house anthem I've not heard before? And it turns out it's one of the latest Norman Doray singles.

SholasBoy I loved one of Norman Doray’s songs from last year, Tell The World. That one you’ve posted sounds straight out of 1996, tune!

All excellent songs, the 1996 hit version of Passion (Do You Want It Right Now) is so underrated! It's an absolute anthem.

Yes! I was going to post this yesterday because this performance was hilariously energetic for 7:43AM! The choreography and those dancers though, I don't know who they are but I really wish I did.

Livin' Joy switched up vocalists right in the middle of the high point of their career. The producers were also behind Alex Party.

I believe Janice was intended to carry on as the vocalist for their future hits but she decided to leave after a disagreement with the producers. Her and Tameka were meant to do some joint shows in 2020 but Covid ruined that!

                                                Same here

I am fckin sick right now (40 temp degrees and throat pain that I have never felt in my life), but I will come here as soon as I fight back this disease

I will start not with obvious one, RIP Robert, but with fantastic re-work of Sarah McLachlan's classic about being stalked (which I have also experienced in my life)

Some time ago I was thinking was is the best Dance UK #1 single - and still after all those years, best thing ever that topped UK chart is this, I am so happy you Brtis put this on the top of the list, I still adore every second of this track, never got old. I would probably put it inside my alltime chart inside top 10.

not many music tracks could put a smile on my face and give me so much joy everytime I hear them, but this, wow, it amazes me how I enjoy it

Bev Knight did marvelous version of this this H-O and Pete Tong
