    • I wonder if Beyoncé's fall out with the LGBTQ community after the Dubai show will affect her chances with Renaissance.

Sure. Especially since the voting period is long over.

The nonsense you always come up with…

          • She dedicated the album to a distant late relative she referred to as Uncle Johnny, who was gay. She collaborated with multiple black gay or trans people on the album. After the release, she hasn't done any traditional promotion but recently decided to do a show in Dubai, the most populous city of a country where being gay is illegal.

            • I'm not thrilled with her decision to perform there either, but I am starting to get annoyed at the double standards when so many other artists performed there and got 0 backlash because of it. Everyone does it.

Anyway, that wouldn't impact her nominations and they closed before it even happened, so move on.

              • The whole music business is full of double standards. Best example was the Da Baby incident back in the day!

                    • I watched a video about Carly Pearce being a first time-nominee. Her biggest hit reached No. 27 on the Billboard Hot 100, her biggest album No. 32. She scored a nomination for a relatively minor category (which imo shouldn't exist as solo, band/duo and collaboration songs should be combined to one category to make it more prestigious to even be nominated, not even talking about winning), Best Country Duo/Group Performance. Still, she felt so excited for even being recognized by the big academy as an underdog artist.
Her big hope is to see Adele and Beyoncé and she said it with such a glow in her eyes that you could tell that she still can't believe that she's get to attend the same event as her idols.
This innocent pleasure makes me so happy, but at the same time, I wish some of the more established acts would take her as an example and not be pissed if they don't win big time with everything they put out. The Weeknd's reaction to Blinding Lights not getting nominated was so arrogant and showed that he's forgotten where he was coming from carrierwise.

                      • General question: Some artists only receive one nomination - in the general field. What I wondered about: Do those nominees stand the same chance at winning as artists with nominations all across the board?
Lorde for example received a nomination for Album of the Year with Melodrama, and nothing else, back in 2018. If neither the album nor any of its singles were considered to be among the best of their genre to receive nominations in the genre categories, did it really stood a chance to win Album of the Year?
Same for when Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo received nominations in all 4 major categories + genre categories. Did that fact alone already determine that the artists exclusively nominated for Best New Artist (Black Pumas, Maggie Rogers, Tank and the Bangas, Jimmie Allen, Finneas, Glass Animals, The Kid LaRoi) would not win in that category?

The Recording Academy will celebrate the50th anniversary of hip-hop with a genre-spanning performance at the 2023 Grammy Awards. Big Boi, Busta Rhymes, Spliff Star, De La Soul, DJ Drama, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Missy Elliott, Future, Glorilla, Grandmaster Flash, Grandmaster Mele Mel, Scorpio, Ice-T, Lil Baby, Lil Wayne, the Lox, Method Man, Nelly, Public Enemy, Queen Latifah, Rahiem, Rakim, Run-D.M.C., Salt-N-Pepa and Spinderella, Scarface, Swizz Beatz, and Too $hort will perform during the segment. Questlove will serve as musical director and producer, and LL Cool J will introduce the event, perform, and give a dedication.

“For five decades, hip-hop has not only been a defining force in music, but a major influence on our culture,” Harvey Mason Jr., CEO of the Recording Academy, shared in a statement. “It’s contributions to art, fashion, sport, politics, and society cannot be overstated. I’m so proud that we are honoring it in such a spectacular way on the Grammy stage. It is just the beginning of our year-long celebration of this essential genre of music.”

Yesterday, the Recording Academy announced that Kacey Musgraves, Sheryl Crow, Bonnie Raitt, and Quavo will also perform at this year’s Grammy Awards as part of the in memoriam segment. Musgraves will honor Loretta Lynn with a cover of “Coal Miner’s Daughter”; Crow and Raitt will join Mick Fleetwood for a live rendition of Fleetwood Mac’s “Songbird” celebrating the life and career of Christine McVie; and Quavo will pay tribute to his Migos relative and bandmate Takeoff, performing his recent song “Without You” alongside the Atlanta gospel group Maverick City Music.

Variety's Anonymous ballots. There are just 5 ballots (hopefully they'll publish more today/tomorrow) so it's even more useless lol Anyway, Harry and Lizzo superstrong, Adele and Beyoncé tanked a little (it seems there is certain notion of them being overrewarded) and BNA is all over the place (they don't know half of them)

Also curious how lots of them say "Beyoncé is winning" yet nobody actually voted for her and went with someone different lol

                                  • I'm not optimistic about Beyonce's chances at all. Of course when you don't promote people think that it's all about the hype than the actual song quality. I'm also not sure if/how well she'll be accepted by the dance committee.

She's barely done anything this year to justify people voting for her. I think her chances are even worse than with Self-titled and Lemonade as those had at least visuals and performances.

One can hope she finally gets AOTY but I think she'll get a couple in the urban/R&B category as usual and that's it.

It's a joke. I wonder how much they paid to end the show. The fifty years of hip-hop was already more than enough.

Where is the backlash? Her team surely did that to create hype again. Her Madame Tussauds mother was everywhere doing publicity.
