I have an up&down relationship with songs from her first album. As I am more into her R&B stuff I don't go very often to check them. I much prefer the MTV Unplugged versions of first two albums tracks!

Love Takes Time is nice but naive, and the video repeated kind of VOL style but what was a strength in VOL was a weakness here.

        3. SOMEDAY (1990)

The music video begins with Carey revisiting her youth, wandering a high school corridor and standing inside a classroom of schoolchildren playing various musical instruments with inter-cutting clips of men playing on drums. Clips of a schoolgirl playing Carey are also shown, with Carey shadowing her movements, and her efforts to catch a schoolboy's attention who in turn persistently ignores her, choosing to mess about in the classroom and corridors with his friends instead. Towards the end of the video, groups of schoolchildren are shown dancing in the corridor as the boy she liked, now an adult, is following Carey around the school and trying to flirt with her, but Carey brushes him off.

The extended version of the video was included on The First Vision 1991 VHS and its subsequent DVD reissue, in which Carey stated that she loved watching the kids dancing and getting to interact with them and that she had fun during the video shoot.

The video was removed from the tracklisting of the #1's video release, as Carey felt ashamed of the results of the video, instead being replaced by the MTV Unplugged performance. In 2015, to coincide with the release of #1 to Infinity Carey released videos of herself talking about the videos to songs on the compilation. For "Someday," Carey stated that she dislikes the video, mainly because of the "tomfoolery" scenes of the kids. She said that she would've kept only the closeups and that the girl playing the younger version of herself was cute. (source: wikipedia)

She looks good, but I love a more glamorous look. It's not so special IMO.
I do love this remix though. It's a shame it's not on Spotify yet.
Don't understand why she always goes for the album or unplugged version on compilations.
It's the 7" Straight that is known by the radio listeners and the 7" Jack Swing that is known by the tv watchers.
So those two versions is what brought the song to #1. Therefor, she should use one of those IMO for future compilations.
Justice for the single remixes of Someday!

Nice video, improves from previous effort. It showcases her a little uncomfortable and tense in parts, but trying to get out of her comfort zone. I don't think it is as bad as to not include this in a video collection!

3/5 for everything so far. The music far out shined the visuals at the beginning of her career.

                                      4. I DON'T WANNA CRY (1991)

The single's music video, directed by Larry Jordan, features Carey in a dark Midwest home and in maize, brooding over her tainted relationship. Part of an alternative version of the music video was released on the DVD/home video The First Vision (1991) , and the original, more familiar version was included on the DVD/home video #1's (1999) as a director's cut, being the only video from Carey's debut album to be included on #1's. The 1991 version had a few sepia-toned sequences that were eliminated and replaced for the DVD release. According to Carey, the sepia sequences were shot and inserted after the original video shoot had taken place, as Sony executives complained about her dress blowing up and the attractive man being a distracting element. Carey says that the added sequences were niche keep and not a good look for her, and that she prefers the original director's cut.(source: wikipedia)

                                          *** (three stars)

For the first few years I thought the alternative version on the First Vision VHS was the video. It wasn't till a few years later that I first saw the real video (as it wasn't released in Europe). And again later I realised there are two videos. Can't find both on YouTube though.

But I like the video. One of her better ones from the early years. Bit boring though, like all her early videos. I prefer the alternative version as it much more stresses the loneliness that she expresses in the lyrics as she dramatically sings in an empty studio.
The song itself is one of my all time favorites. "Once again we sit in silence" must be one of her best opening lines of a song. That one line sets the mood and says it all. No escaping the drama.

I love that line. So dramatic. She's such a smart songwriter.

Kind of in line with Love Takes Time video. I like the colors and atmosphere but agree the video is boring because it lacks a little more content. But for the cinematography i'll give it half star more than LTT.

The video goes nowhere but she looks simply beautiful in this throughout. There is something about her fully curly hair that really pulls me in 2.5/5
