ROUND 13: MUSIC
This set is a little bit of a hodgepodge as we have a couple Ray of Light tracks left, three soundtrack songs, and a duet with Ricky Martin. The bulk of it though contains tracks from Music. 1999 seemed like a quiet year for Madonna other than her soundtrack contributions, but she had a lot going on. She was a new mother and worked on the movie The Next Best Thing, legendary director John Schlesinger's last film. IN 2000, it was released but unfortunately, it bombed critically and commercially. Its delays also caused her to postpone a concert tour of Ray of Light, which would resurface in 2001 as the Drowned World Tour.
You could say the movies called to Madonna in another way. She had started a romance with director Guy Richie, and it would prove to be her longest lasting romantic relationship so far. In 2000, she gave birth to their son, Rocco, and married at the end of the year. She released her next album, Music, just weeks after giving birth. Music continued Madonna's journey into electronic though she went with a different producer, Mirwais. They'd go on to have a fruitful partnership over the next twenty years as he would work on subsequent albums with her. The lead track, much to Madonna's consternation, was leaked a couple months before its actual release - while that became more common in later years, it was still novel in those early Napster years.
Despite (or perhaps because of) the leak, the album was yet another success - in the US, it became what would be her last multi-platinum album, though her success was far from over. The lead track gave the mom of two her final #1 in the US, which put her at twelve #1s total - at the time, the only woman with more solo number ones was Mariah Carey. It also makes Madonna the oldest female lead on a US #1 this century.

ROUND 12: RAY OF LIGHT RESULTS
The results were pretty clear this time around as there quite a few votes between the top 7 and the bottom five. Finishing with the most votes from this set is the rock-tinged Candy Perfume Girl. Just behind we lose two songs I championed, Mer Girl which finds Madonna reckoning with her mother's death, and the Sanskrit Shanti/Ashtangi.
Little Star written with Lourdes in Mind and Has To Be, a bonus track form Japanese editions, complete the eliminations.
