Glad the black brilliance that is I Have Nothing won. Even Whitney said How Will I Know was cringey. (Video wise I completely agree)

    C.o.n.g.r.a.t.s. to I Have Nothing, a well-deserved win!

It almost didn't make the Round 35 Race. But thanks to Choley for choosing it over I Wanna Dance With Somebody and Saving All My Love For You. Congrats to How Will I Know for being the runner-up as well. (You should check out Ed Marquis Bootleg remix. It's also a good one).

    And finally, Congrats cheapthrills!

I'm happy that I was able to participate in this one right from the start. It was so much fun.

    Great survivor.

Loved to see It's Not Right remix climbing so high.

And How Will I Know is one of my all time favorite Whitney songs.

Congratulations on I Have Nothing, Whitney going Shirley Bassey. Love it.

    Congrats cheapthrills, excellent hosting!

Great winner, not what I’d have chosen but can’t deny it’s a classic. Interesting it also won the rate!

Amazing job cheapthrills! You rule! Such a well thought and executed survivor!

Good winner of course, such a power ballad, although I was not rooting for it.

The "It's Not Right but It's Okay" Thunderpuss remix did so much better than I thought it would. Its finish here is the most pleasant surprise and I'm definitely happy "I Have Nothing" prevailed in the end.

Many thanks for the diligent effort in hosting this, CT!

And with that, I close this survivor. My next artist survivor will be Bonnie Raitt - not sure how much crossover between these two there is, but let me know if you would like to be tagged. In the meantime, I've started a survivor for the Years & Years album "Night Call."

It was a year ago we started our Big Five Diva series: the summer to Mariah; the autumn to Madonna; the winter to Janet;, and the Spring to Whitney. Now it is time for Wayne to close the series with Celine Dion - starting very soon.

Thank you all for your participation. I was unsure how much affection there would be for Whitney and I'm glad to see such a nice turnout. A special thanks to those of you who were consistently here for just about every round.

I Will Always Love You all

    DISCOGRAPHY RATE

We opened the survivor with what turned out to be a discography rate. This table shows the ranking based on those first 13 rounds. The Rank is where the song ended up in the survivor, and the Diff column is the difference between the discography rank and their final position.

Saving All My Love For You very nearly was our #1 song in the discography rate. I Have Nothing moved to #1 at the very last second when I realized jaycrawford had edited a post to include a ranking of four songs. It means that I Have Nothing topped both the rate and the survivor - a true champion. It is one of only two songs to equal its position. Oddly, the table is bookended by the only two songs to match their position.

I've listed the biggest jumps and drops below the table. I think G$ will be pleased with one of the outcomes as he's primarily responsible for it. All three versions of My Love is Your Love had impressive glow-ups.

    WINNER

That means the gorgeous I Have Nothing takes the crown 14-10. Between being long overshadowed by fellow track I Will Always Love You, the competition of the My Love is Your Love tracks, and the 80s uptempo tracks that we all love, it's a dark horse candidate that wins it all. (Or maybe it wasn't a dark horse - see below). It's an absolutely beautiful song and I love that it won for so many reasons - it represents Whitney's peak era, isn't overplayed, and is a supreme example of the lustrous tone Whitney lends to her music. We did well in picking this one, everyone!

    RUNNER-UP

As with the Madonna survivor, we had an 80s track versus a 90s track, and the outcome is also the same. For both artists, I prefer their 90s output, but they each have tracks in the 80s I find irresistible. And for Whitney, that is How Will I Know - there's such an innocence to the track and there's so much trademark delivery in it. It never fails to put me in a good mood. It's my favorite Whitney song and I'm pleased to see it gets the runner-up in her survivor.
