It Bites - Calling All The Heroes (UK#6) - an actual band from Cumbria
Viola Beach - Swings and Waterslides - (UK#11, an extremely tragic story of a band dying in an accident)

It Bites - definitely in - got to have some representation from my roots back in West Cumbria. I think we might have to lose Blackpool lad Aiden Grimshaw. He flopped pretty badly on X Factor (surprisingly so) and then didn't have much chart success either.

Viola Beach - again definitely in. Maddy Prior didn't have any real solo success so she can go.

I was debating over Sub Sub, but the simple fact is Sub Sub and Doves are the same act, and they had more success as Doves as an indie band than as Sub Sub as a dance act.

Just a few thoughts
You are usually going with the highest charting single, this time in many cases you didm't. Great choice for Oasis, but i'm afraid not for the Beatles, very risky, they proba bly won't go through to the final 8 with Penny lane. Imagine, the worlds biggest band can't win in their own county?
And i would change the Cast entry with Walkaway

navi - to clarify how I pick songs, the rules are generally as follows: 1) Have they had a song that naturally relates to the region? For example, Gerry and the Pacemakers clearly had to be in with "Ferry Cross The Mersey" despite it not being one of their three chart toppers. 2) In most cases, their biggest hit. However, for some really big acts, I'm more inclined to do their first big hit. Therefore, I did a somewhat smaller hit for Oasis - as it was from earlier in their career. For the Beatles, they had two singles that are actually about Liverpool - and given "Strawberry Fields Forever" wasn't a US No. 1 but "Penny Lane" was, I went for "Penny Lane". I still think it'll do well though, as it's a phenomenal song (they had so many!) Cast - absolutely happy to change. Not sure why I picked "Guiding Star", they have a number that are roughly the same size as one another, but I personally prefer "Walkaway" as well.

Thriller - Good spot, definitely including Mansun. Sorry to Britain's Got Talent winner George Sampson but he didn't really have any serious music career (just one flop single). Are people happy with "Wide Open Space"? Despite it not being a top 10 hit, I'd say it's the most remembered song of them all.

SholasBoy - Rowetta - Alas, from Manchester, she has way too much competition. Therefore she can't get a solo entry (given she never had any chart success at all as a soloist). She will be in as a member of Happy Mondays though (assuming she was in the band when "Step On" was released.

Let's test that theory about Ooberman - they're from Liverpool, so you can't count things like Mock Turtles and Monaco.

Ooberman - 4 albums, Singles peak - 39 - 4 top 75 singles.

Ian McNabb - 13 albums - Singles peak 38 - 6 top 75 singles
Icicle Works - 5 albums (4 of them top 75) - Singles peak 15 - 7 top 75 singles.
Dead 60s - 2 albums - Singles peak 24 - 6 top 75 singles
Stands - 2 albums - Singles peak 25 - 5 top 75 singles
Ladytron - 6 albums - Singles peak 42 - 5 top 75 singles.
Kathryn Williams - 14 albums - No singles charting top 75 at all.
Spinners - 40 albums, only 4 of which charted. No charting singles.
Mojos - 0 albums (according to Wikipedia). Singles peak - 5 - 3 top 75 singles.
Bandits - 1 album - Singles peak 32 - 2 top 75 singles
Black Velvets - 1 album - Singles peak 34 - 2 top 75 singles
Sonny J - 1 album, Singles peak 40 - 1 top 75 single.
Clinic - 9 albums - Singles peak 56 - 3 top 75 singles.
Rezonance Q - 0 albums - Singles peak 29 - 1 top 75 single.
Lynn Cornell - 0 albums - Singles peak 30 - 1 top 40 single (chart was only a top 40 back then!)
Cheap Thrills - No albums. No charting singles.

So - there's some acts that arguably could beat Ooberman, particularly Icicle Works and Ian McNabb and maybe Kathryn Williams and the Spinners though neither of them broke out of the folk scene. Others like Dead 60s, Stands and Ladytron are on a par with them roughly - not so long careers but bigger when they were big. I'd have loved to have included the likes of the Stands, the Bandits and Clinic for example but there simply wasn't space to do so. I have a feeling Ooberman might do better than you expect - I'd say Amsterdam are actually equally if not more borderline in terms of success (however much I do love them as well) and they would have lost out was it not for their song actually being about Merseyside!
