Hello and welcome to another regional UK survivor... and this one's a big one. It's time to journey to North West England.
500px-North_West_England_map.png
As a region, it's going to get 8 of our finalists - more than any of the other regions so far. Therefore, we need to come up with a massive 80 songs from the North West to feature.
So - who can name any acts from Cumbria? Well, there's not that many really? Cheshire? Well there's a few more. Lancashire? Again, maybe a few more.
However, the North West region also includes Manchester - home to everyone from the Hollies, Herman's Hermits and the Bee Gees, to the Smiths and the whole Madchester scene of Happy Mondays and Stone Roses, to two of the biggest acts of the 90s - Take That and Oasis, to Peter Kay to Aitch. You could easily come up with 80 songs from Manchester alone.
Also, the North West region includes Liverpool - home to the Beatles, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Cilla Black and Ken Dodd, and to 90s bands like Cast, Space, the Farm, the Boo Radleys and Gomez, and pop stars like Kym Marsh, Melanie C and Atomic Kitten. You could easily come up with 80 songs from Liverpool alone!
So - what are we going to do? Well, unlike the other survivors, this one is going to have two pre-survivors. One of them we will whittle down from 60 songs from Greater Manchester down to 30, and the other we will whittle down from 60 songs from Merseyside (i.e. greater Liverpool) down to 30. Then the winning 30 from each area will battle it out alongside 20 songs representing the rest of the North West to try and get our final 8.
What is IN so far? Well, we have all this lot!

So - who is missing? Is there anything people think is glaringly obvious as an omission? I can't guarantee I'll fit them in - because all of the following missed out!
From Liverpool - I couldn't fit in 60s one hit wonders the Mojos, early 80s band Icicle Works, or 00s bands Dead 60s, Stands, Bandits and Black Velvets - however great all four of those bands were, folk singer Kathryn Williams, Sonny J, indie singer Ian McNabb, 50s singer Lynn Cornell, folk band the Spinners, dance act Resonance Q, indie stars Ladytron and Clinic, and an act that really is called the Cheap Thrills! (@cheapthrills)
From Manchester, there were fewer that just missed the cut, but they were huge names. Madchester legends the Mock Turtles missed out for being a bit too one hit wonder-y and for "Can You Dig It" not actually being much of a chart hit. Similarly 90s indie stars Monaco missed out - "What Do You Want From Me?" missed the top 10, and Peter Hook's already in as a member of New Order. Finally from Manchester, I would have loved to include the longest charting song title in history, given its Manchester links, Manchester punk band the Freshies with "I'm In Love With The Girl On A Certain Manchester Megastore Checkout Desk".
So, by all means suggest missing acts, but they'll have to be pretty big to get over the threshold for this survivor - this one is tough!
