  • If I remember right "Four on the Floor" came with some remixes, which may have been why that track became a hit in those countries.

          • In the late 80s/early 90s, the music scene was awash with the sound of Stock, Aitken and Waterman - a trio of producers who defined the ultra pure pop sound of the time. Obviously the biggest star to come from the scene was Kylie Minogue. However, if Australia had Kylie, the UK had our own equivalent - Sonia. Her debut - "You'll Never Stop Me From Loving You" was a chart topper, and whilst none of her others got higher than No. 10, she went on to have a long run of hits in the late 80s and early 90s. She also represented the UK at Eurovision - and is by far the most successful Eurovision entrant on this list (with "Better The Devil You Know" (which is not a Kylie cover)). However, when your competition on the list is Daz Sampson, Nicki French and Jemini, that's not too hard! I'd always assumed she was from Liverpool - and she's been one of the biggest advocates of the Liverpool Eurovision bid (don't rule out her being one of the presenters next year!) but actually she's from just outside - Skelmersdale in Lancashire. That has probably helped her no end, as she has avoided having to go head to head in a prelim round with the La's the Boo Radleys, the Lightning Seeds, Space and the Farm - pretty much all of which have already sailed into the top 30 or are likely to do so.

The most northerly act remaining, having lost all the Cumbrians, is 80s singer John Waite. He's from Lancashire's county town of Lancaster, and he's largely thought of as a one hit wonder for the 80s classic "Missing You".

Next up, we have a true iconic classic song. When Peter Kay did his "BBC Children In Need Medley", he wanted something iconic to end on. Therefore, he got all the characters singing "Hey Jude" by the Beatles... before segueing at the end to "One Day Like This" by Elbow. Guy Garvey and friends, from Manchester, are in general a rather mid-table band when it comes to success. During the 00s, definitely their breakthrough decade, their three biggest singles all peaked at No. 19, and "One Day Like This" was a No. 39 flop. It would take until 2012 before "One Day Like This" would climb into the top 5 of the UK charts, a song with definite staying power.

It was hard to pick for the Bee Gees - but I believe Massachusetts is both their best selling single in the UK, and is certainly their debut chart entry and first No. 1, even if Massachusetts isn't exactly in North West England!.

                            • Three more songs have to leave before our final 30 is announced - and first up, it's one of the biggest acts of them all - but one who aren't actually from England at all, let alone from the North West of England. If you take a boat out from the west coast, you will find yourselves in the middle of the Irish Sea, on the Isle of Man. It's best known largely for its unusual history and traditions - the image of a man with three legs, the cats with no tails, but also for its cycling and motorcycling - with the famous Isle of Man TT Race in motorcycling and some cyclist called Mark Cavendish when it comes to pedal cycling. In terms of music, it's also the birthplace of one of the most famous musical families of them all - the Gibb family. Barry, Maurice and Robin Gibb, aka the Bee Gees, therefore could technically class as being from the Isle of Man, but I've let them in to represent Manchester, where they spent their early childhood. Of course, they then moved out to Australia, and are more thought of as Australians than Brits to some people. The song, their first No. 1 single, isn't about the UK or Australia - but Massachusetts!

Second out a rather short lived career from X Factor. Having come a shock fourth behind Alexandra Burke, JLS, and her then-boyfriend Eoghan Quigg, it was a bit of an upset when the wonderful indie song "Hallelujah" couldn't be given to its intended recipient - Diana Vickers. When she started her career, she was much more down an electro pop route, topping the album chart, once, and topping the singles chart, also once, with "Once". After a chart topping debut single and album, things went downhill in success relatively fast.

The other one we lose by a whisker this round is... Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds! Therefore, neither Gallagher brother is going to make our final 30. The question is, given Liam only narrowly missed out as well, who has won the final battle? Noel's total score is 16.9 points. Lian's total score is 19 points. Victory goes to Liam!

                              31. Liam Gallagher - Wall Of Glass
