åh! Hej igen! Välkommen tillbaka till Sverige!
Oh! Hello, again! Welcome back to Sweden!
Oh! Hello, again! Welcome back to Sweden!
It hasn't been too long since we were last in Sweden, about a year and a half ago when the 2021 Retro contest was held there. Sweden's an old hat at this FSC thing, with this being its 13th win, enough to tie it for 2nd place on the all-time list with Australia and only behind France.
We're swimming in familiarity this month as not only is Sweden a frequent winner, so is CandyPerfumeBoy who got his 18th win (yes, you read that right) with this delightful submission:
Helsinborg is the closest town to Denmark, which is just a half hour ferry ride away to the similarly-named Helsingør. That's no coincidence as Helsinborg used to be Danish hundreds of years ago, before Denmark lost it along with the Southern Sweden peninsula to Sweden. It's an old town that has been around for nearly a millennium. Despite its age, it had a small population up until the 19th century, and now hold a little over 100,000 people.
So, a town this old has got to have site-seeing and things to do, right? Well hmmm. There are those ferries if you want to escape to Denmark for a short time; they apparently have some fantastic views if you're willing to brave the February chill. I understand there are some nice pottery classes over at Wallåkra Stenkärlsfabrik, a stoneware maker. There's a cold bathhouse called Kallis, which is well, cold, so perhaps not appealing when it's already February. Still, I won't judge if you want to live your best life there - just be aware clothing is not allowed, and men are separated from women, which some of you might see as a bonus.
If you're hankering for something to eat, Miss Alice apparently makes tomato pies, which one site calls "famous," but I'm not so sure. I mean this is pizza, isn't it? Anyhow, look, I'm trying here. It's not like this an enormous metropolis.
