Previously on ARIA #1 Singles Survivor... Whew its been a moment, We finished 2019's list back in Jan 2022, where the massive 24 week run total #1 Dance Monkey took it out.

Welcome back, this time we head back to 1998's list. 14 Songs (15 including Ricky Martin's Double A-Side, which as custom will play as one until if reaches the Final) hit the top spot. No Australian artists, although a couple did go Top 5. Some Big Movie Soundtrack songs, such as Celine Dion, Aerosmith and Goo Goo Dolls. Aqua and Offspring return from previous editions as bookend carryover #1's.

A Tie at 2nd last means Steps and It's Like That scrape into Round 2, while B*Witched's Rollercoaster big dips out on 5pts.

Rollercoaster ended Aerosmiths 9 week run at the top in November, for 2 weeks before this rounds winner, Crush, took over. It was the second single from their debut self titled Album (#5 and 2x Platinum in Australia), which I recall I got for Christmas that year and was part of the soundtrack of my Summer. I even did a Survivor on it a few years ago. The Lead 'C'est La Vie' peaked at #6 here.

Their collaborative effort with Steps, Tina Cousins, Billie Piper and Cleopatra for 1999's 'Thank ABBA For The Music' single reached #9. The Video for Rollercoaster also had an Alternate US Version.

Good timing also, as part of a 25th Anniversary celebration of the band, The Girls have just released a new single called 'Birthday' which I'll do a bonus link below. ;)
