Heaux Tales breathes life into themes of love, sex and loss, granting grace to those who are usually stereotyped and disrespected. It's the type of grace that even Jazmine admits she finds hard to constantly grant herself.

"You can't put us in a box to save your life," Sullivan says. "We are too colorful for your brightest paint."

The loving, bold dexterity of this work is precisely why Heaux Tales is crowned NPR Music's No. 1 album of 2021. In honor of the coronation, Jazmine tapped in with All Songs Considered to break down exactly how she created the concept for the project, the impact of what creating safe spaces can do and why this is the most important work of her career.

"Not only can we have [safe spaces] within our own inner circles, but let's expand it. Let's all look out for each other and have great intentions for each other and want the best for each other and even check each other if need be," she says. "Let's make this a movement."

Next time tho. Her Reality Show Tour was one of the best intimate venue shows I've ever been to.

Hopefully due to demand they'll extend it. But I can wait if we get another full blown album. I recall her saying before this dropped that she would be back to tour with said album, but as all can see, they didn't see Heaux Tales taking off like this.

Awesome for her, nevertheless. Way overdue.

My only issue with The Other Side is that it's a hybrid of Mascara / Famous, lyrically speaking. Feels a little like she's done it before?

Lost One and Put it down are the absolute standouts here for me.

She posted a snipped of a new song, Jazzy’s Tale I believe. Sounds amazing. So excited for this. I hope we get the part 2 early next year so I get enough time listening to the album before the tour.

Oh, also… I believe she broke up/taking a break with her boyfriend, they both have been posting lowkey shady posts and spent Christmas separate. I don’t wish them anything bad, but oh boy… I just can’t wait what she comes up with next.
