I’m leaning more towards 2000s - that run from American Pie to Celebration is incredible.

My fav decade is 90s

but i have to say the album is incredible, so cohesive. It’s really good never though it would be that good

That makes two of us. In my case it may be worse: I didn't even know Jacques Lu Cont was in fact Stuart Price. I discovered this a few hours ago when I read his interview to MusicWeek.

He also goes by The Thin White Duke. He basically did all the remixes for her Confessions Remixed LP.

Honestly, out of all her producers, I reckon Stuart understood the assignment the most. Possibly even better than Madonna at times during that era

"It's here! I haven't had a chance to listen yet, but the 50 Number Ones box set is stunning. Rhino did good!
The book and picture sleeves are thick professional-grade paper, with the picture sleeves packed separately from the discs (which are in anti-static sleeves to prevent damage). There's information about each track and what makes it special. And the translucent red records are beautiful. It's been a while since I felt the "wow" factor when I opened a Madonna record, and I'm really glad they did this right!"

As much as I’m loving the full FEL50, I do think most of the album highlights are on the standard version. I think my favourite from FEL50 is actually American Life, followed by the Miami Mix of DCFMA (I know it’s not new, but I’m enjoying it more than ever for some reason).

Neither do I. She did release a lot of single versions back in the 80s, but not for the singles of the Like a Virgin album.

I don't see this album as cohesive. Hits from the 80's sound like album/single/radio versions while from the 90's onwards the songs remind their original versions less and less with some of them being a bit too tiring for a pop album. This record is therefore neither a typical remix album nor a good greatest hits collection (the inclusion of Physical Attraction, Keep It Together, Bedtime Story, I Rise, Crave, Turn Up The Radio, I Don't Search I Find, Nothing Fails, Love Profusion, Girl Gone Wild, Impressive Instant but the lack of Papa Don't Preach, Crazy For You, True Blue or La Isla Bonita make little sense but I guess this concept of 50 #1 hits wouldn't have worked otherwise). It's nice to listen to and discover some interesting remixes but in general I don't see this becoming anything else than a treat for some fans. It's too long as a whole and probably too expensive too. It may have its revival pre-Christmas but I would expect this album to die out and be forgotten for good somewhere in 2023.

I cannot choose which remix is the best, there’s really TOO MUCH good stuff in here.

Jump defenitely had the worst treatment, it had some good remixes but they choose the worst.

MX having 4 tracks it’s too much , maybe it’s because the album has aged terribly bad for me, but I have to say it’s remixes are very good, especially Medellin and I Rise.

I just bought the Fnac exclusive red vinyl edition, as it's the one which would probably be sold out sooner.
I'll buy the 3CD version later, once it's a bit cheaper.

I wish they would have adapted the inner artwork of the vinyl (and standard CD) to fit the tracklist... As it's the same one as in the 50 tracks deluxe version (but chopped on both sides, so some singles covers are hidden). It's a bit messy they're showing single covers of some songs not included on the standard edition... while some of the songs on the standard edition don't have their single cover on the artwork (they're hidden behind the tracklist and song credits). They should have made its own artwork with the 16 single covers on this edition.

The concept of remixing music only really solidified during the 1970s. As such, Madonna has been there almost from the beginning (in terms of what we recognise as remixes) and FEL50 tells the story of the evolution of remixing: in that respect, it is cohesive to the history of dance club culture.

The 80s were about tweaking the originals (giving more of the same, extended versions etc), but as you continue listening, you can see different influences emerging in chronological order - house music, trance, EDM etc.

When you consider Madonna’s stature as the Queen of Pop, the biggest selling female act of all time, and the fact this album contains fifty #1 remixes from five different decades, it’s actually an album of cultural significance: it tells the story of dance and club music almost from the very start.

I mean, just look at the first track - the album opens with Holiday, which was produced by Jellybean, a guy who used to DJ in Studio 54 back in the 1970s.

Yes, it is a niche release in that remix albums always are, but it is essential listening for anyone with an interest in music and the evolution of music.

Plus we know how much she loved MX and how much she likes to push her latest work over older material. I actually think the MX era was a pretty poor remix era for her, though the mix of Medellin is a standout and personal favourite.

Let me also add that I m not familiar with dance chart, but how on heart “Who’s That Girl” or “La Isla Bonita “ haven’t reached the top???

It’s a crime both singles have been excluded!! Urghhh

This! I can imagine Who's That Girl and La Isla Bonita not reaching #1 as they are not really dance songs, but Rescue Me has some of her best dance remixes ever. Especially the Titanic Vocal is out of this world.
