On the other hand: Does it really need promo? Promo is required if an album does not sell according to label expectations? But what if it's just doing fine and they believe that any additional effort is not necessary or even counterproductive as 'too expensive' (Hardly believable since Beyoncé is filth rich, but who knows...)?

But she shot herself in the foot by not just announcing that, or at least leaking it so we could work it out ourselves. So it’s the same old problem - too much silence from Bey and her camp. Throwing the hive a bone once in a while won’t kill her.

Sorry, but a foot injury doesn’t explain anything. I broke both my ankles simultaneously, resulting in a hospital stay, two surgeries and a long physio journey to regain my ability to walk… my life didn’t come to a screeching halt and I was back at work two weeks after the incident.
I get the “no performances” part, but there’s a gazillion other things she could’ve done if she wanted to. It’s Beyoncé we’re talking about, she’s always been a trooper. There’s no way she disappeared for months just because of an injured foot. You best believe she would’ve been hopping around at Parkwood on bedazzled crutches if need be.

She's done everything she ever wanted to do at that point in her age, has earned enough money for her descendants in a 100 years to still live from that and is pretty much focused on her family now. All that's missing in her row of achievements is the AOTY trophy, and I fear that if she wins that one for 'Renaissance', her motivation will completely drop.

I don’t mind Bey putting her family first - they are more important than any career, and she’s earned it considering how she worked her a** off during her early years.
Contrary to most hive members, I don’t even care that there are no visuals yet. I can wait.
What bothers me about this era is that nowadays promo doesn’t even require that much work anymore. You no longer have to travel the globe, doing interviews and TV appearances and what not. There’s so many opportunities to promote that are mere mouse clicks away. It would be easy to throw her fanbase the occasional bone, but she seems too busy having rich folks and celebs crawl up her a** instead.
I’d be happy with just hints of what to expect and some vague idea of when to expect it, so I’d have something to look forward to.

Again, what would be the profit for Beyoncé to throw her fans a bone? It's hard to understand for us normal folks, but we are talking about a person with enough money for her great-great-great-children to still live a posh life. She basically threw us a bone the moment she released the album. Why do more? The only reason would be because she wants to do so, and what if she doesn't? Britney Spears and Rihanna haven't released an album in years. We are so used to artists releasing new albums every 2-3 years that we believe that they have to do that when, let's face it, even youngsters like Billie Eilish or Olivia Rodrigo have already earned enough money that they could retire tomorrow and not have any financial problems for the rest of their lives.
Her only remaining to do is the AOTY trophy. Everything else goes by what she feels like wanting to do, and at the moment, that's her family and ocassionally performing for the social elites.

She’s not just some rich person who ponders on whether she really has to work another day of her life or not. She is an artist who wants her art to be heard and seen and that requires generating and maintaining interest.
Just because financially she could keep releasing albums for the rest of her life, even if they literally sell ZERO copies, doesn’t mean that she’d be happy doing that. She’s always been about making an impact, and for that you need people who actually care enough to check out your stuff.
Granted, she’s Beyoncé, she’s far beyond the danger of fading into total obscurity, but nobody can tell me that she’s at the point in her career where she’s fine with being just a legacy act. So, yes, she needs her fanbase and she needs to make sure they stay on board.

Sorry but the money argument is silly. If that was the case, she could’ve introduced this approach long time ago. She’s had millions on her accounts ever since she was in her 20s.

It’s clear that this is a well thought out strategy, to be this mysterious and inaccessible legend. And it works, because whenever she decides to actually lift a finger, everyone and their moms eat from her hands.

It’s a well known fact that money is not as important to the rich as power, acclaim, and legacy. And that’s what she’s creating, she doesn’t care about sales.

Family is another good point although not in this argument because even with 10 children in the house, she could do more in terms of public appearance.

It seems weird that a nine times nominee wouldn’t show up, but it’s Beyoncé after all. You have to expect the disappointment unexpected.

Btw, this should maybe go in the Grammy thread, but am I the only one expecting her NOT to win AOTY? I know the voting committee is more diverse than it used to be, but I still think Renaissance would be off-putting for the more conservative members, so I just don’t see it having enough “universal appeal” for a general field win.
