Lee just did an extensive interview with The Guardian and he just had a harmless and carefree opinion about what happened in a broader context of how Black artists struggle to win the big prizes at the awards even when they have the critical acclaim and the success (he literally had to wait 30 years to be nominated for and win a competitive Oscar despite being one of the most influential directors of the last four decades; he even got the Honorary Oscar first so imagine how overdue he was). I don't think demographic aspects should determine whether someone wins an award but rather artistic value.

Beyon : I just watched that part 4 and assume that the biggest problem here is the different perception of what the Grammys are supposed to stand for. This guy is arguing a lot from a sociopoliticial point of view when I believe that the show should be exclusively about music and what a jury of experts consider an outstanding artistic contribution, irrespective of commercial success and demographic features.

A genre of music is a bit different to racial discrimination. Only three black women have ever won AOTY as far as I’m aware and Lizzo was the first black woman to win Record since Whitney for ‘I Will Always Love You’. America definitely has a problem and the entertainment industry awards bodies have been plagued with recent criticisms of racism

I considered them the lowlights on the album . But good to know that there's something for everybody on the record, after all. The best albums are the ones for which you could ask 10 people about their favorite track on the album, and they'd name 10 different songs.
Overall album quality has really involved, I gotta say. Remember how back in the late 90s/early 00s, there were many albums that had like 4 good songs and the rest was fillers, if we're being honest!

I noticed she keeps reaching new peaks these past few weeks as far as her Spotify monthly listeners go (even higher than when Renaissance first dropped) so it's great that the song appeals to people who weren't necessarily checking out her music then.
