The album lacks of cohesion, it a mixture of every music genre that's working on right now. River was a nice surprise, but it was a really good choice for single #2? ... I know Miley wants to be creative and everything, but this one it's going to take some time to digest.
And what they did to YOU... it was a crime.
Altought, I loved Island, Jaded, Handstand and Violet Chemistry.
I really hope this era gives Miley the success she deserved with Plastic Hearts.Billie Eilish claims her second Number 1 single with What Was I Made For? , scoring a last-minute victory over Dua Lipa’s Dance The Night.

Just to add more context to this for anyone not planning on watching the Disney+ Backyard Sessions: Miley said that the song started out as a song called Happy Girl in 2016/17 after that happened (she sings some of it too). She wrote it as a song for her own sister after not being able to imagine her in her life. That then evolved into Thousand Miles, a song about "happiness and sisterhood" and "being ok with not knowing exactly where you're going". Miley said it's "far from the sadness that inspired it".

Guardian review
[...]In fact, Flowers suggests Cyrus might have managed to entwine her competing impulses more successfully than on Plastic Hearts, where vaguely antiseptic “rock” tracks and guest appearances from Joan Jett and Billy Idol sat a little uncomfortably alongside floaty synth-pop and big arms-aloft ballads[...].
[...]Flowers sets the tone for a considerable chunk of the album, which deals in well-written pop songs dressed up in arrangements that – with their acoustic guitars, rhythm tracks apparently recorded live, pianos and soft washes of synthesizer – nod in the direction of mid-70s LA without seeming wilfully retro. The Brandi Carlile duet Thousand Miles is probably the finest example of this, but it’s all high-quality, melodically robust and hooky, the softness of the arrangements pointing up the gritty huskiness in Cyrus’ vocals[...].

It was always gonna struggle to top Plastic Hearts, but this is a good album.
I've listened to it three times now - there's a bit of a lull in the first half, but it really picks up from Handstand onwards.
Based on initial impressions, I'd say my highlights are Jaded, Handstand, Violet Chemistry and Island. Muddy Feet is a vibe too, but it feels more like an interlude.

I listened to this at 2am on release day and it was better than I expected but not quite as solid as "Plastic Hearts" was.
Tracks 1-5 were very solid with "Jaded" especially great but then "Handstand" messed it up for me, the first skip on the album. That one was too 'drugged up musician expressing themselves' for me. "Muddy Feet" is even worse and shouldn't have been on this album.Couldn't Sia have given her one of her trademark overdramatic ballads instead? I'm certain the results would have been infinitely better than this song. The album ends strongly the same way it starts, it's just a slight shame about the middle section.

On my first spin, I was underwhelmed, due in great part to "Flowers" setting the bar so high, but spin two is where most of the album clicked with me. "Muddy Feet" is so good! This is already one of her best albums for me.Akini's Top 100 Songs of All-Time [2023 Edition: #1]

The album starts off nice.
But that middle stretch from You to River is v iffy.
Can't decide if I love Muddy feet or hate it.
Violet Chemistry is great and Islands has to be next single.
Wonder woman is a borefest.
love the demo version of Flowers but it's a bit lazy to put it on the album. Write another track and put that on the single.
Overall decent and much more enjoyable than Overrated Faux rock but it's a bit of a letdown overall if I'm being totally honest.Billie Eilish claims her second Number 1 single with What Was I Made For? , scoring a last-minute victory over Dua Lipa’s Dance The Night.
