            • As much as I like seeing Madonna on her videos, I understand why they opted for the other version. She clearly wanted the focus to be on Mykki Blanco, not her. Once she appears, the video’s message is sort of diluted, as everyone focuses just on her.

              • I wish they had done a video like Papa Don’t Preach style video for Dark Ballet - Madonna in a room somewhere, ‘narrating’ the story of the video, which takes places else where with Mykko.

                • They kind of did that with God Control and the type writer?

Love the new version of Dark Ballet. Such a powerful video and a career highlight. As is God Control.

For me, Madame X aged beautifully. With the pandemic, and the themes through the album... and the year I had in 2019... it holds such a special place for me.
It only gets more relevant politically as time goes on. As much as I adore American Life, I think Madame X is the better album when addressing political issues. It’s subtle and more intelligent. Ciao Bella, God Control, Dark Ballet, Exteme Occident, Killers. Such layers records.

I am so sad the bonus tracks are still not on Spotify.

Well the main difference would be Madonna singing the damn song, rather than typing it

I thought so too that Mykki was pivotal to the story, Madonna knew that and wanted that to be the central point of it all

All in all, both videos are ok -actually more than ok, it's one of the best videos released that year imho- along with the others that M released too, she really did bring the visual aspect to the music and lyric aspect of MadameX , making it an all around solid concept.

Absolutely, AL is more in-your-face type of album whereas MX is more elegant in that regard

I think they both explore different aspects of life. American Life was absolutely a look at modern life, specifically addressing the American dream, celebrity and it’s importance in the face of what really matter, like love, faith and family.

American Life is essentially Madonna having an internal look at herself whereas Madame X is Madonna looking outwards and realising there is more - but both are Madonna exploring who she is and her place in the world.

I love them. I just love it when she works with Mirwais - he elevates her songwriting considerably.

                                  Future and Bitch I’m Loca.

I love the tour version of future.
I would have replaced Bitch with Back Up To the Beat and would have mixed it with Faz so they bleed into each other. They share a similar sound, to me at least and it would have been an awesome uptempo moment on the album.
I would have placed Ciao Bella as closing track. Hopeful yet sad.

I’d happily have an entire album of Ciao Bella house/world music anthems for the next album. It’s truly become an all time favourite Madonna song.

                                  • Regarding the lyrical content: Some of you compare 'Madame X' with 'American Life'. I would say that 'Madame X' tried to follow a vision but doesn't quite succeed because of its heterogenity in context. 'American Life' reflects Madonna's views on American society and her role as citizen and as mother. I would say that only 'Die Another Day' doesn't quite fit their. On the other hand, the subtle political remarks on 'Madame X' get, imo, disrupted by songs like 'Bitch I'm Loca', 'Medellin' or 'Crave'. And then there are songs like 'Future' or 'Batuka', which may sounded good on paper but ended up messy in realization.

I would approve the idea of a house vs. world music mix from Madonna.

                                    • I used to hate Future but now i think it's a bop. I hate Batuka and Bitch I'm Loca though. Last but not least, God Control is the best disco inspired song of the last 4-5 years. Such a flawless song. I would've loved to see videos for Crazy, Killers Who Are Partying, Come Alive and I Don't Search. MX would've made a great visual album.

                                      • So one and a half year after:
                                        1) Medellin: I still love this, her best single in ages and ages KEEP
                                        2) Dark Ballet: I think this works quite great in the context of the album. I would consider it a filler but a great one at that. KEEP
                                        3) God Control: A good disco track, it looses points from its repetitive nature (no clear chorus) and the rap. And it drags a bit. But it is still good. KEEP
                                        4) Future: I do like this song despite the Eurovision mess. KEEP
                                        5) Batuka: I hate Madonna's voice on this one. Could have been better if she bothered to sing. As it is, it's to be skipped DELETE OR RE-RECORD
                                        6) Killers Who Are Partying: same vocal delivery problem although this song is so good that even Madonna's terrible vocals can't destroy it. However Madonna did her best at that (to destroy it) KEEP OR RE-RECORD
                                        7) Crave: Quite the opposite from the song above. An average song in terms of composition but Madonna's vocal delivery elevates it to great song status KEEP
                                        8) Crazy: I love this one, it's really good. And I especially like Madonna's delivery during the second verse (first verse could have been better). KEEP OR RE-RECORD
                                        9) Come Alive: don't like it, skip DELETE
                                        10) Extreme Occident: an OK ballad, didn't like it at first, then grew on me, good she released a video for it KEEP
                                        11) Faz Gastoso: sorry but this is borderline embarrassing. Pointless cover, terrible vocals, it's really bad DELETE
                                        12) Bitch I'm Loca: and this is even worse. Strong contender for Madonna's worst song ever. DELETE
                                        13) I Don't Search I Find: I can't really grasp everybody's fascination with this one, I never liked it, I still don't. It has a good beat but it sounds unfinished, it doesn't fit with the rest of the album and it is kinda boring. DELETE
                                        14) Looking For Mercy: she should have probably released a video for this one. It's a really good ballad, I do like it KEEP
                                        15) I Rise: an OK closer track, not bad but not single-worthy either. Madonna' vocal delivery is not great KEEP OR RE-RECORD

                                        1) Funana: I can see why this is delegated to b-side status but I kind of like it. It's cute. KEEP OR RE-RECORD
                                        2) Back That Up To The Beat: this sounds like a "Hard Candy" reject. I don't like it. DELETE
                                        3) Ciao Bella: The thing is that this would have been a better song without Madonna on it. And that says a lot about her vocal delivery on these songs DELETE or RE-RECORD

                                              Can’t agree at all.

Regarding Die Another Day, it fits the album themes because the entire song is about understanding who she is. It’s a song about her internal struggle to understand that her soul is her real self, and that the physical body is temporary.

It’s a song steeped in Kabbalah ideology, and the tattoo she wears in the music video sums up the song perfectly - her tattoo means ‘overcome your ego’ and is one of the 72 names of God in Hebrew.

When you listen to it alongside Easy Ride, they’re the perfect album closers - if Die Another Day is about killing the Ego so that the soul can thrive, Easy Ride continues that journey by discussing re-incarnation - having multiple lives, working hard each time, learning what she needs to in order to achieve her ‘good life’ in heaven, an eternal kingdom not ‘defined by time and space’.

Music and American Life were better, but I understand why they are polarising.
