  • Tori Amos - Midwinter Graces.

Let me whine a bit first!
Her worst album cover...or maybe even THE worst album cover ever.

Honestly my least favorite Tori album but this year I've mustered up the courage to listen to this in full for the first time.
Turns out it's not that horrible.
Some VERY traditional arrangements mixed with some questionable cheesy AC moments.
Most of of all I don't like her vocals on this album, they're mixed so dry and she uses so much 'babyvoice'.

    Now onto the positive:
-The production is very authentic and true to the meaning and concept of the album most of the time, it's very traditional and old fashioned and I appreciate that.
-After many years and albums of being critical of religion, mostly Christianity, she was able to claim another perspective and make music from another point of view. It shows how much she has grown and altered over the years and is now able to put aside some of the ego, pride and personal beliefs.
-"Winter's Carol" +The album closer "Our new year" is undoubtedly Tori and I personally wish the whole album would have been more in that vein.

    "Is Stalin on your shoulder..."
" he was with his composers?"
