  • [Pop] Mae Muller - I Wrote A Song [UK ESC 2023]

When (if) it’s officially announced that she is representing the UK I’ll add it to the title.

This sounds pretty hot from the preview! She had a hit with Neikid in 2021 and is currently on Sigala’s latest single. I also know her from Dependent which she released in 2020, When You’re Out with Billen Ted and American Psycho with Marshmello.

I’m hoping this song is a party, we don’t need no more crying over the boyfriend sad diary entries.

Ok hello bop, these songs need a confident vocal though or they can go quite badly quite quickly, but I like this clip.

This video though, reminds me of one of Madonna’s embarrassing tik toks

Not a fan of this and disappointed it's out Eurovision entry. That TikTok video is the definition of cringe. Looks like she's 3 shots deep at your local Simmons bar.

Certified BOP. It's so catchy., i need it on Spotify! First female bop since Javine and Touch my Fire (2005)?

I still find it a very random song to be the UK entry.

On first full listen I really like it! It’s an earworm, it’s a female bop, it sounds like it'd be a hit under normal circumstances... kind of everything a lot of people have been asking for from the UK for the past 5 years. Will just be all about how it translates on to the stage now!

Mae is a 25 year old singer and songwriter from London who writes honest, sassy pop music.

She co-wrote her Eurovision entry I Wrote A Song with Brit-Nominated songwriter Lewis Thompson and Karen Poole, who has written for the likes of Kylie Minogue, Lily Allen and David Guetta, as well as being a founding member of Alisha's Attic.

Mae’s been writing her own music since the age of eight, and was working at a pub as a teenager when she landed her first publishing deal. Mae has since gone on to release two EPs, landed millions of views on YouTube and TikTok, has over 2 billion streams and supported British girl group Little Mix on their 2019 stadium tour.

In 2021, Mae scored a top 10 US hit with platinum-selling single Better Days with NEIKED and Polo G, which she performed on TV shows including Jimmy Fallon and The Voice US. In 2022 Mae was nominated for MTV EMA and VMA awards, and 2023 will see the release of her forthcoming debut album.

Karen Poole of Alisha’s Attic wrote it! So when Mae says she wrote a song, she didn’t mean the one she’s singing.

Thanks for the tag - I didn't realise it was a Karen Poole song. It's far from Karen's greatest song, but it's still a decent song, and will probably do well at Eurovision I'd guess.

The chorus sounds so familiar but I just can’t place it. This is very Eurovision though, but I don’t think it’s as strong as Space Man.
I have a bad feeling about this.

Decent entry for the UK, great music video.

One bit of the chorus melody is quite similar to the French entry though (I wrote a song = Evidemment)

Catchy song. Hope she brings a fire performance on the night to lift it.
