I’m sorry to continue with this but we know how the remix/versions treatment works in 2023. A lot of people does from SZA to Rosalía, from Beyoncé to Nicki, etc… is not as it was 10 years ago.
And as for Taylor, we know she is capable to pull another #1, but it seems like Midnights was overshadowed by its lead single, like Endless Summer Vacation was when River was selected as the second single.
Of course will help the chart run but it’s obviously that the major goal is for a improvement at the chart peaks and that’s completely fine, if y’all so blind to see that, y’all better know and understand that that’s a practice that all the artists have done.
What is problematic is that she choose Ice Spice while the person she is dating treated her in derogatory terms and he laughed of her. That’s why it feels unauthentic from Taylor’s side, but she’s so good at managing this kinda stuff that we’ll never know… and I don’t understand why it is so hard for her stans to accept that some of us this is what we think… we’re not ten years old kids… I know we have to defend our favs, but sometimes we don’t have to agree with everything our favs think/done

and I’m glad you added the “we’ll never know” statement. We know nothing about her personal life or about when this remix came about. So you’re right - we’ll never know. One life with one dream on repeat

I finally listened to the remix. Ice Spice's part, if viewed isolately, is surprisingly good in a way that it exceeded my (honestly rather low) expectations. However, I agree that it feels a bit copy-and-paste. It's not really an upgrade, which it could've been if the whole song was reworked and not just the 2nd verse + bridge replaced by Ice Spice's rap part. I'm thinking of Beyoncé's Break My Soul Madonna remix, which was a good example of how a remix can improve a song.
