  • Lil Nas X - Old Town Road (I Got The Horses In The Back)

The viral song that's currently at #32 on Billboard Hot 100. The song came out in late 2018 but took off when users of the TikTok platform started using the song in their videos. The song has also courted controversy this week because the song charted on the Hot Country Songs chart but was taken off when Billboard determined that it wasn't a country song, but a rap song. Here's more background about that.

Thanks to this song, Lil Nas X is now signed to Columbia Records. I figured I would post it here, rather than in the Country forum.

at Lil Nas X getting a deal with Columbia, major.

This has the same light trap beat that every country song on radio has these days, Billboard only took him off the Hot Country Songs chart because he's black.
    late.

That Rolling Stone article was really interesting. Honestly, I think it could justify staying on thr country chart. But people just hate when something comes around that colors outside the lines.

I just heard Billy Ray Cyrus is joining for a remix of this.

Should this thread be moved to country?

I mean, Billboard allows the Avril Lavigne-inspired "We Are Never Ever The Title is Too Long" to chart on Hot Country Songs and the Sia-written "Diamonds" on R&B/Hip-Hop Songs so there's that. I never really take their genre charts seriously, genre's airplay charts are where the value is for me.

the more I listen to this song, the more I don't understand how this can be labeled as "country", except for the horses, the videoclip and Billy Ray Cyrus joining for the remix

For some reason the vibe kind of reminds me of the mid 2000s.
Good song but way too short!

I've moved this to the country folder because I disagree with Billboard.

This is very country: from his twang, the lyrics and the vocal styling.
                                ? i bloom just for you ?

I didn't think it would make it to #1 so fast - even before the remix.

I’ll be more appalled when this cracks the urban airplay chart. The hicks can keep this

Wait....Lil Nas X and Nas Maraj are the same person...one of Nicki's Barbz getting a #1 before her He's the guy that used to make all those scenario threads on Twitter as well. But he's blocking anyone who brings it up & the label are trying to delete all traces of it on the internet. Why? Being a Nicki barb from stan Twitter would ruin his "street cred"? It's not like anyone is taking him SERIOUSLY as a rapper anyway so he and his label needn't be going to all this effort tbh.

                                            Anyways...the song is catchy afffffff!!

It's better than a lot of actual trap/rap songs that are out at the moment but that's not saying much at all. It's still unlistenable. The standard of song that gets to #1 in the US is shockingly low.
