Just think of:
Old Town Road (17 weeks)
Despacito (16 weeks)
Macarena (14 weeks)
I am surprised Gangnam Style got stuck at #2.
If the Old Town Road record gets broken, I think it will be most likely by someone we haven't heard of yet.
OTR still at #2 this week although Senorita dropped to #3 and the Tones and I song is #1.Last edited by Affillate; Sun August 4, 2019, 05:26.

Yeah I'm not averse to novelty tracks going to #1, I enjoyed many of them. It's just a bit much when it's 10+ weeks.

This song is the ultimate meme song. I think this started with Harlem Shake, then Gangnam Style, but this kid has capitalized on the memes to get to the top and staying there.I am the maniac, I am the ghoul

This song is not Entirely novelty though.
The chorus has an amazing melody as well and also the instrumental in the verses COULD be used by any critically acclaimed artist.
If the chorus was sung by Adele you guys would not be calling this novety.
It is a touch above all the aforementioned songs tbh. If this is novety then BEP- I got a feeling is tooForever Young

Adele wouldn't sing lyrics this stupid though
I think the reason the chorus falls flat for me is that it doesn't rhyme at all.

The song is groundbreaking. A country rap fusion. Complete genius!

Well, I do get why it's novelty ... I mean this is a song that mentions a bladder, boobies, and booty all in one verse.
But I do think it has cultural impact for all sorts of reasons.
I'm curious to see what knocks it out of #1 now though.❖ Women in Rap Survivor ❖ Survivor of Survivors 92

InFamous: Regarding country and rap fusions, the most successful ones before 'Old Town Road' were 'Dirt Road Anthem' by Jason Aldean and Florida Georgia Line's 'Cruise' remixed with Nelly. The thing is that those two songs were exclusively known in the US and Canada - unlike 'Old Town Road'. Sam Hunt also did some country rap songs, but again - only known in the Anglophone world. Considering this, a surprise Lil Nas X's label bothered to release the song outside of Nothern America...Is it offensive to fall in love with you and everything you do

some of the longest ever number ones elsewhere:
Il bambini fanno ooh! managed to score a 18 week run at #1 in Italy back in 2005 on the back of San Remo appearance
"Colgando en tus manos" had an unprecedented 29 week run at #1 in Spain back in 2008-2009.Waffles are checked cookies
