  • Charli XCX - Blame it on Your Love (feat. Lizzo)

After going through many behind the scenes incarnations and getting remixed into the incredible Track 10 on her critically acclaimed mixtape Pop 2, Charli XCX is finally releasing a single version of the long-awaited Blame it on Your Love.

Stefflon Don has been unfortunately been cut from the track, but don’t worry, we’ll be getting a new verse courtesy of Lizzo instead.

YAAAAAAASSSSSSSS! Just last night I was listening to Track 10, and mentioned to a couple of friends how the songs exist in another version that is completely different. Can't wait to listen to this new incarnation of the song!

It's crazy how many incarnations this song has been thorough. Here's an lq snippet of the Stefflon Don version which was considered as a single a while back.

If anyone hasn't listened to Pop 2 (why?????), here's Track 10 which is basically an insanely brilliant remixed version of this upcoming single.

It’s coming in May, though we don’t have an exact date yet. For someone who creates so much material it’s ridiculous that we’ve had to wait 8 months since Charli’s last single to get a song she’s been sitting on for years (albeit, a re-worked version).

I'll always be ready for new Charli.

Has she ever disappointed with a single?

This is listed in the description of Apple’s updated Best of the Week playlist, but it’s not there. I wonder if it’s a mistake or if Charles is waiting til midnight EST?

Ok this is actually coming on Thursday for real. Charli and Lizzo just shot the video.

Aaaah this is so good. But this actually sounds more like a remix than Track 10 to me.

I might've been way off-base, but "Track 10" always struck me as so damn sad, remorseful (in a very powerful, effective way). Her coming to terms with the fact that she's just been pointing fingers, when much of the blame actually rests on her shoulders and stems from her own personal demons.

The production in "Blame It On Your Love" (and especially Lizzo's playful verse) really change the tone and impact of the song for me. Maybe that's a good thing, since it gives the track a new lease on life/fresh feel, but it'll definitely take some getting used to.

Track 10 is one of my favourite Charli songs ever, the re-worked version seems to be very bland compared to the first one, I thought Lizzo will do a bit more, she's just a rapper-esque verse and I don't like that coming from her, she's talented AF. It's enjoyable but not epic as Track 10 is.

                          Welp.

This is very bland for Charli's standards, especially that generic break.

When the beat started during the first verse it immediately reminded me of a Sean Paul song. Did she sample something?

Agreed. There were so many other ways to restructure this song as an uptempo. As it is now, it sounds a bit lazy.

That's true, but there's no way Atlantic would have ever sent Track 10 to radio, it's far too avant-garde and abrasive for radio to touch.

Mixtape Charli and single Charli are becoming two pretty distinct entities at this point, but she mentioned that Blame it on Your Love is on the more pop-spectrum on her album which she's worked on with A. G. Cook, so we should get plenty more left-field material when we (eventually) get that.

I can't get over how much sex appeal Charli exudes.

Completely agree about the sad, remorseful vibe in Track 10. It's still there in Blame it on Your Love, with Charli's vocals sounding particularly melancholy like they did on Boys. Charli's just dancing through the pain this time (Lizzo's verse doesn't really fit the vibe at all though).

I like the concept of revisiting / re-editing old songs though
This track is actually much older than Track 10 (it's from 2015 at the latest). Track 10 was titled as such because she wanted to put a version of Blame it on Your Love out, but Atlantic wanted other singles at the time.

This is nice but she had better ones.

I hate how her and Grimes take ages to release a damn album. Well, at least Charli is serving quite a few singles lately.

Oh I thoroughly enjoyed this, going straight on my driving playlist.

I think like Mike says, it got a bit lost at the end - and I think it'd be better overall without Lizzo - but great song nonetheless.

Agree, the general tone of the song is quite melancholy as Charli sings about how she sabotages a relationship and her happiness everytime it gets too close/real and then Lizzo just goes "Charli you crazy" and changes the topic.
