  • Donna Summer - MacArthur Park (1977)

Anybody a fan? Its one of her best vocal performances in my opinion - Donna is very underrated when it comes to discussions on who the best female singers are.

This disco standard was her first Hot 100 #1 selling millions of copies in the process, and is regarded as one of the better covers of the song.

    I really love it!

It's fabulous like most songs by Mrs. Summer. She's a really underrated diva

Yeah, she made my top 15 when I counted down my favourite artists of all-time, two years ago (around the release of the excellent Crayons album). She really, really is one of the most criminally underrated divas - her voice just soars, and soars.

What is your favourite record of hers jio?

            Richard Harris version much better.
Wasn't the lyric meant to be rude? Can't see it myself :-?

I am mostly familiar with her disco stuff so I would say the "Bad Girls" and "The Wanderer" albums. The reason why she is so underrated is probably because she did disco and by the early 80s disco was a no-no for the general public in the States. If she was doing any other genre she would be much bigger now. Still though she is undoubtly the biggest disco diva ever and most possibly the only one the average kid has chances to know

My Mum used to play this all the time when I was younger. It's a cracking tune!

I love most things by Donna Summer particularly "Heaven Knows", "Love's Unkind", "Down Deep Inside" and "Work That Magic".

I love the "Crayons" album and the albums "I Remember Yesterday", "Once Upon A Time", "Bad Girls", "Live & More" and "Encore" as well as "Another Place And Time", but the other albums I find just okay.

While the song is overwrought, Donna gives a fantastic delivery and makes it a good record

I ponder the question "what is my favourite song of all-time?" quite a bit when I'm posting on UKMIX as my posting often coincides with listening to music, and I think this is probably a contender - it's without question my favourite Donna song and one of the greatest songs by a female artist of all-time.

The vocal performance in this song was adopted by so many female singers - an incredible song and singer.

Donna's remake is fantastic, love it! The lyrics of the song are hilarious.

Easily one of my favourite cover versions of all-time ~ and Donna apparently recorded her version in one amazing take.

                          MacArthur Park Suite rocks!

She came and recorded MacArthur Park in one take. They recorded a second take just in case but used the first take. From that point on she was nicknamed “one take Donna.”

One of the most influential songs of all time ... disco, pop, dance, ... it covered all genres.
