  • Lisa Stansfield - All Around The World

Before Winehouse, before Duffy, before Adele, we had the original blue eyed soul diva of the 1980's and 1990's who had achieved her first #1 with All Around The World in November 1989.

To this day, it remains her signature track inspiring numerous of the soul divas that we have today.

It's so easy to SEARCH these days - particularly when you can limit the search to the Retro thread, which seems an appropriate thing to do before posting a new thread in Retro.

LostAvenger - Lisa Stansfield is already undergoing discussion here

Always thought she was black - I heard this on so many soul/urban stations growing up. Figures it was an R&B #1!

Ahhhhhh. This song soothes and stirs my soul simultaneously. It's like whipped butter.

Instantly transports me to a time and place, yet its timelessness is undeniable.

          A+

One of the best songs ever. So smooth. Timeless.

Love it but thanks to over play I prefer many of her other singles to this.

I have an older sister that plays this song to death. I love it because of her.

I had her pegged as a soul sista! Talk about circumventing traditional R&B mores all the way to #1!

Timeless. Classic. One of my favorite R&B songs ever.

When this song was out in 1990, Billboard mentioned it was part of a very competitive time on the Hot 100.

During any other time, its point total would have been enough for #1, but it peaked at #3 for 3 weeks.

I thought this was Anita Baker for the longest time.

She sounds nothing like Ms. Sexy Growls though

I agree that they sound nothing alike on the verses but their tones are similar on the hook.

I never got why she didn't include some mixes of this onto her LS Biography GH . I mean a mix for 8-3.1 but not this? (I had to buy the import for the 2nd CD btw)

Surprisingly, an un ironic hood anthem.

Amazing chemistry with Barry White and Lisa has never been sexier than she is here

Feel your pulse it's groove o'clock
                                        A message to madness
                                        Feel music that's realness
