This is indeed one of her most personal albums. It talks about what she went through more than the other 2000s albums she released. It felt like a therapy record for her as well after the breakdown.
Also, "You Got Me" is so underrated. It's the catchiest song on the album and it was unnoticed. "I Only Wanted" would have worked as a second international single.

So I listened to "Charmbracelet" for the very first time last night and it was so boring. Out of all the Mariah albums that I've listened to this is definitely my least favorite. I felt like I was listening to the same song for an hour because everything sounded the same to me. All the songs were either boring as hell or just okay. No wonder that she didn't have a hit from this album. I definitely won't be listening to this album anytime soon. :-?
The only songs I really really liked were "Bringin' On the Heartbreak" and "Sunflowers for Alfred Roy". Beautiful songs."Lullaby", "The One" and "Through the Rain" were okay/good as well.

Re: Mariah Carey - Charmbracelet
^ Through The Rain and Bringin' On The Heartbreak are my favorites.
I loved the TTR video and live tv performances. Such a great start to this era.
She should come to Europe again for promo. She was so loved back then here.My Instagram... - Click here

So I listened to the album for the fourth time now:
1. Through the Rain 8/10
2. Boy (I Need You) 5/10
3. The One 8/10
4. Yours 1/10
5. You Got Me 4/10
6. I Only Wanted 7/10
7. Clown 8/10
8. My Saving Grace 6/10
9. You Had Your Chance 8/10
10. Lullaby 8/10
11. Irresistible (West Side Connection) 0/10
12. Subtle Invitation 4/10
13. Bringin' On the Heartbreak 10/10
14. Sunflowers for Alfred Roy 10/10
15. Through the Rain (Remix) 6/10
The lyrics are good and it's probably one of her most personal albums. It's just the fact that some songs sound the exact same or that you can't tell the difference between the chorus or the verses. "Yours" and "Irresistible" are simply unbearable. Also what the hell happened to her vocals on this album? They sound horrible and we're talking about Mariah Carey, one of the best singers of all time. She's whispering throughout the entire album. :-?
It got a little better for me with each listen tho. I guess you just have to listen to it as a whole and have to give it a few more spins. But it's still definitely my least favorite album of hers so far (still have to listen to Mariah Carey, Daydream, Emotions and Glitter tho). The only song I'll come back to is the amazing "Bringin' On the Heartbreak". Boy (I Need You), Yours, You Got Me, Irresistible & Subtle Invitation could've easily been erased from the tracklist and could've been replaced with better songs. The "Through the Rain" Remix is kinda bad and unnecessary as well.
I always thought artists make the best music when they go through a hard time (see Britney's "Blackout" or Janet's "The Velvet Rope") but I guess that's not the case here. :-?Britney Spears • Janet Jackson • Christina Aguilera • Michael Jackson • Selena Gomez • Hilary Duff • Taylor Swift • Justin Timberlake

Re: Mariah Carey - Charmbracelet
^ I think the new style of singing was to try something different. I had to get used to it as well.
I love Yours though. I think it's in the vein of Underneath The Stars and Fourth Of July that are among my favorite songs as well.
All in all it's probably my least favorite Mariah album too.My Instagram... - Click here

Most of this album has a chill vibe like none of her other albums (except maybe Caution now) and I love it for that. It’s there when I need it. A couple of tracks are weaker than the rest, but that’s the same as most albums. The tracklist flows the worst of any of her albums though and I think it’s what puts people off most when giving it a listen all the way through. There’s also the unfortunate fact her worst song ever, Boy (I Need You), is on this album and got released as a single

Wow, this thread was created in 2002. It might be one of the oldest Mariah threads in this forum right?
I remember hearing CB for the first time around 2009 and I thought it was tragic. However around summer 09/10 I listened to it a lot after coming back from the beach and started to like it. It's a "summer album" for me
"I Only Wanted" is the best track on the album obviously, it might be the last adult contemporary ballad Mariah has made (non-holiday) as all of her ballads after it has some R&B influences.
"Lullaby" is "Giving me Life" 's precursor isn't it? Experimental-riah with a hot track with awesome lyrics. I think the lyrics are the highlight in this album because obviously the vocals are not.
"Subtle Invitation" is a track she needs to perform live again. I think the last time was on Angels Advocate Tour. I love that jazzy/soulful touch.
"You Got Me" and "Irresistible" are tracks I used to hate and now I really like them unlike the rest of the lambily, lol.
"Yours" is among Mariah's worst tracks ever. Period.

It may be among the oldest for sure! This is why I love these threads because you're able to read back the conversations and see what the experiences were like for fans back then in comparison to now. It's pretty cool
The YOURS hate is so amazingly wrong I nearly spat my tea. It is such a beautiful record and the lyrics are amazing.
