She'll do better because she'll have better promotion and timing.

All of Fantasia projects were released at bad time, bad publicity, and bad promotion.

^^ Love that song as well. But 'Spotlight' is perfect as her debut release.

This has really grown on me!!! It is amazing and as i said i think i'm glad she isn't screaming, as radio wouldn't play it much.

                          The cover is wonderful.
Between listening to Solange i'm listening to this!!!

This track is such a grower, when I first heard it I didn't think much of it at all, but after time, it just becomes completely addictive. Such a summer vibe, and Hudson will really nail this one when she does it live! Can't wait for the video.

                                            Jennifer Hudson, staying flexible
MOVIES & MUSIC | In 'Sex and the City,' Chicago's dreamgirl does it her way

                                            BY CINDY PEARLMAN
NEW YORK -- Jennifer Hudson is flipping out. The Oscar-winning actress and Chicago native pops off her chair in the middle of a swanky New York hotel suite where she will proceed to freak out everyone in the room.

Hands over her head, she begins to lean backward and allows her entire body to fall toward the expensive rose carpeting.

                                            Can you say traction?

"Oh, honey. No traction here. When I get stressed out, I do deep backbends," says Hudson, who arches her back and gracefully falls backward until she just about hits the floor with her palms.

Hudson is nothing if not flexible. She didn't win "American Idol," so she showed them and won an Oscar for "Dreamgirls." Some said girls who weren't size double OO wouldn't work, but Hudson -- who scored a plum role in "Sex in the City," now in its first weekend -- has never been busier. Some told her that she needed to move to Hollywood after that happened, but Hudson stays firmly put in her Chicago condo.

Oh, it's that condo she can thank for her new, skinnier figure. "I walk up to my place on the 23rd floor. I take the steps," Hudson says. "I can do it six times in a row. I've counted and it's 300 steps. I don't walk down because those steps are too narrow. I walk up and take the elevator down. I leap up some steps. Switch it up. I eat according to a diet. It's my new healthy life plan."

It doesn't hurt that her career plan is going according to schedule, too. Hudson's new single from her upcoming CD will drop this month. First up, though, is her role as Carrie Bradshaw's assistant in the wildly awaited big-screen continuation of "Sex and the City."

Hudson is the first to admit she didn't know too much about "Sex." "I knew it was a hot show, but I never watched it," she admits with a laugh. "Once I got a call for this audition, I got the DVDs and watched the entire series during a whole weekend in Chicago. I fell in love with it and still carry the DVDs with me."

'I believe in love and purses'
Hudson plays Carrie's assistant, a young woman who above all believes in true love. "Everybody has been trying to get plot secrets out of me. I hear, 'Oh God, why does Carrie even need an assistant? Do Carrie and Big get married?' All I can say is if you're a fan of the series, you'll love the film. It's very true to the series."

Joining the fantastic four of "Sex" women wasn't easy. "Everybody knew each other, and I was the new person," she says. "But it was good. I guess there are a lot of 'Dreamgirls' fans around. We shot a 'Sex and the City' scene getting out of the subway, and it was, 'Jennifer, can we have your autograph?' I was like, 'Oh my God, I'm in the middle of a scene.' "

Does she believe in love like her character? "I believe in love and purses," she jokes, "just like my character."

She also believes in her music. Hudson's new single called "Spotlight" comes out this month. "I'm headed to Rome to introduce it. The album comes out Sept. 20. I think I've recorded over a million songs at this point," she jokes. " 'Spotlight' has a pop feel. It's sort of clubbish. You can stand in the mirror, sing along, clean your house and listen. It's totally different from Effie in 'Dreamgirls.' "

Hudson admits that her career is "beyond my control and expectations at this point." She also has a role in the upcoming "The Secret Lives of Bees" with Queen Latifah, Dakota Fanning and Alicia Keys.

As for her Oscar win, "I was extremely nervous and in shock that night," Hudson says. "I was in a room full of Academy Award winners and nominees. Things don't hit me until later. When I went back to present at the Oscars last year, I stood up there still trying to grasp that I won an Oscar."

                                            The downside of fame
There also has been the downside of fame. "A few months ago, I was performing in Atlanta and this girl said she would shoot me during my live show," Hudson says. "She wrote that in MySpace. I guess she was a fan, but she didn't want to be a fan anymore. She decided I didn't thank her on the BET Awards. That's what she decided.

                                            "I was terrified."

She stayed nervous during her next public appearances. "I had an event around the same time. Of course, people know where you are. They had pictures posted of this girl at the event. But the bottom line is, there is no one to go to about this sort of thing. That's the scariest part of fame."

Hudson regroups in Chicago. "Look at this green top," she says. "I got it on Michigan Avenue where they have lots of good stuff."

Hudson keeps her Oscar in her condo. "My Oscar is on its own mantle," she says. "It lights up and sings when you walk through the door. It sings 'Ahhhhhhhhh.' No, seriously, it's on a lighted stand, and the light beams up at Oscar. People want to touch it and see it. Who am I to deny them?"
