Janet Jackson’s Alleged ‘Horrific Ticket Sales’ Proved To Be False By ‘Billboard’

‪Later this year, Janet Jackson will kick off her new world tour in North America. The show will be titled after her upcoming studio album, Black Diamond, and is expected to visit numerous continents.‬

‪According to Hollywood Hills News, Jackson is apparently in trouble for “horrific ticket sales.” Despite the shows only going on sale a couple of weeks ago, they claim a source close to Live Nation are worried they will lose several million dollars. Hollywood Hills News believes that she is a good enough performer to stand on her own merits but should have booked smaller venues.‬

However, Billboard revealed last week that there has been a lot of interest in her tour and that there should be nothing to be worried about. The “What Have You Done for Me Lately” chart-topper instantly debuted at the top of the BandsInTown + Billboard Global Top Artist Index chart on February 22.

For those unaware, the chart tracks interest in artists’ touring activities in 10 of the major U.S. cities and key international markets. Debuting at the top of that chart proves that Jackson’s tour has had an instant impact on fans and was more popular than any other artist’s tour that week.

The “All Nite (Don’t Stop)” songstress thanked everyone for their support two days ago by sharing a post on BandsInTown.

Well... I’m sorry but that article and specially that headline is bs.

Billboard proved nothing... She’s just #1 in that irrelevant chart. And it’s just normal that if she released tickets for 34 dates that week, she’s going to be #1 that week in that chart.

Numbers, however, are there. And can be tracked day by day. And while there’s still lot of time left till the tour begins and I’m sure she’ll do fine in the end in most cities -as it happened with Vegas shows- so far, numbers are quite bad in most of the cities.

^Also that chart tracks 10 bigger cities. She didn't flop on SOTWT in big cities but in smaller ones. And there are some in this tour too.

but honestly very mixed performance close to SOTWT is to be expected. It's not like she came back with a bigger/improved image. No new music, nothing... Nothing to make casual fans to buy the tickets. This is only hardcore fan territory when it comes to these ticket sales.

She's touring America to much. Should've just did a Europe, Africa, Asia and Oceania tour.

I'm a little worried about the prospects of the tour going international most especially in Asia due to the corona virus. Avril cancelled her entire Asian leg due to health concerns and understandably so. Health is paramount and I won't be mad if it takes a while before international dates are announced.

There's an easy way of doing it - via Google Chrome > Ticketmaster.com (relevant date page)...

Right click > view page source > search: totalPriceRange":[],"count" >

You'll then get a list of tickets left per area on the map but underneath that, you'll have a total:

                "totalPriceRange":[],"count":1364,"

Some European countries already have bans on large crowd gatherings. But this is still early and eventual dates for European and Asian dates would be towards year end anyway. By that time the virus could die out like SARS etc. I don't think there's any reason to panic yet. They probably have venues in mind and possible bookings, but if they're smart they will just wait a bit to see how the situation unfolds. And the virus is present in the US too and spreading. For all we know dates could get canceled in certain ares due to public safety there too in the future.

If they’re afraid of low ticket sales outside the US, coronavirus would definitely make a good excuse for not being able to visit the rest of the world. Another cancelled European tour would just be the final straw.

Or they could use it to their advantage and say that they’re ‘scaling down’ venue sizes in Europe and elsewhere as a precautionary measure due to coronavirus. That would save face if she has issues selling out large arenas.

Does anyone have a breakdown of how many tickets she sold and how many are still available per date ?

                        -

I agree with the comments above. This will be her 3rd tour in America in the past 5 years + the Vegas residency and Rhythm Nation shows! There really isn't much demand especially considering the fact that she hasn't released an album since 2015. Like i'm a huge Janet fan but I already spent 500$ to see her just a few years ago I'm not exactly eager to go see her again anytime soon.

She should book some theaters in Europe and do a leg there.

All venues are available on normal capacities with 12-14k each. So far there is no dates with curtains or blocked section, but I see State of the World Tour attendances here so don't expect too much.

Is it safe to assume she will be postponing the US leg of the tour? She keeps telling everyone to stay home etc and i dont see June/July being realistic for people to be that close to one another. Anyone know if there will be an announcement or some type of update?

She (or her team) is hyperactive on social media but they still didn't mention this. I guess that they will once they have new dates set.

She's been having concerts in each of the past 5 years (only one in the 2016, though) and grossed over $100 million, not counting 11 festivals in Europe, the Middle East, Australia, New Zealand, and the U.S. Does anyone have an idea how that works and how much artists are usually paid for their performances at big festivals? For instance, she headlined the Outside Lands Music Festival in San Francisco, and it ended up being the highest-grossing festival of the year in the U.S.

Performing at all these festivals for the mostly young audience was one of the best things she had done lately. Could it be that she's the only woman above 50 that have performed at the Glastonbury's Pyramid Stage oustide the "Sunday Legends" slot? I'm amazed that a woman in her 50s, with a music career nearly four decades long, is still welcome at all those festivals, usually reserved for current, young female stars, and rock bands.

Her European tour could be made mostly of festival performances, like the latest Taylor Swift tour.

I really hope that she can continue this streak in the next five years. Obviously, she has no intention to slow down.
