I saw Cyndi live around the time the Shine EP came out and when she said the next song was called Madonna Whore, the audience laughed thinking she had written some bitter shade song to her one-time competition

Agreed, Cyndi continued to make solid music too, she forged her own path just like M did and I think people who feel sorry for her for not having the career and success M had are missing the point because by 1989, Cyndi was her own artist and had mostly moved away from the cutesy image and music that made her a star to begin with, so it wasn't like she was trying to emulate Madonna to no success.

But that title lol....

For a similar 1980's pop rivalry. I know some MJ fans who were offended that Prince recorded a song called "Jack U Off", even though of course the song was just one of his sex numbers and had nothing to do with Michael

I will say Drama Band - Cerita Dia. Lyrics such as "siapakah di hatinya" makes me think that the song title looks shady.

- Patrick Wolf - "The Magic Position"
especially when it peaked at #69 in the UK

- Jessie J - "Who's Laughing Now"
it was her first hit to miss the UK Top 10

- Corona - "I Don't Wanna Be A Star"
your dreams have come true, Corona!

- TLC - "Unpretty"
it was not the prettiest song indeed

- Boyzone - "Love Me For A Reason"
there were close to none, I guess

- Justin Bieber ft. Ludacris - "Baby"
especially with this pre-puberty vocals

- Take That - "Love Ain't Here Anymore"
their first single to miss the UK #1 after a stretch of 4 consecutive chart toppers

- Take That - "I'd Wait For Life"
one will spend a lifetime waiting for some life in this song

- Dr Dre ft. Eminem - "Forgot About Dre"
hardly anyone associates this track with Dre these days, I'm afraid

- Eminem - "Ass Like That"
self-promotion at its most prominent form

- Eminem ft. Lil Wayne - "No Love"
to miss the Top 30 just after scoring the year's biggest seller is no love indeed

- Tanita Tikaram - "Stop Listening"
1 single week on the UK chart (at #67) means they actually listened to her and took note

- Sunshine Anderson - "Heard It All Before"
not very advertising title, one hit wonder career followed

- Tinie Tempah - "Simply Unstoppable"
ended up as one of his least successful singles

- Scooch - "The Best Is Yet To Come"
oh yeah, a seven year hiatus topped by a Eurovision entry

- Robbie Williams & Nicole Kidman - "Somethin' Stupid"
perhaps stupid but pretty successful actually

- Craig David ft. Sting - "Rise & Fall"
chart-wise there was hardly any rise though

- Razorlight - "Stumble And Fall"
- Feeder - "Tumble And Fall"
both fell like rocks on the UK chart

- Mansun - "I Can Only Disappoint U"
and yet I loved this song 15 years ago :(

Joana Zimmer - Not Looking Back

For those who don't know her: That German singer was born blind...
Je n'ai qu'une philosophie: Être acceptée comme je suis. Malgré tout ce qu'on me dit, je reste le poing levé.

Say no to streaming!

some random ones since we're going more for ironic than shady

"My Death" - David Bowie (he sang this one when he was freaking 25)
"I Would Die 4 U" - Prince
"When I'm Sixty-Four" - The Beatles (as Paul was singing about how elderly 64 will be and how he'll be some old retired guy and now he's 74 and still touring and recording)
all those Beach Boys songs about waves given that Dennis Wilson drowned in the ocean
"Old Friends" - Simon And Garfunkel (they basically hate each other now, and they've also both passed the age of 70 where they sang about how strange and elderly they will be at that point)

Aaliyah - Never Comin' Back [tragically died in a plane crash Five years later]
Drake - Too Much [words to describe his overexposure at the moment]

The shadiest of them all is Christina's Keeps Gettin' Better, as someone mentioned in the song's topic it was pretty much the beginning of the end

Nirvana - I Hate Myself and Want To Die
(Cobain blew his head off less than six months after this came out)

The Beatles - Happiness Is A Warm Gun
(a Lennon song... eerie given the way he was killed)
