Just checked and I couldn't see an existing thread for this. I thought it could be quite fun and interesting and dramatic to discuss the signature song for different artists. But please, let's not make this a list topic...there's plenty of potential discussion to be had.

A signature song is the one song that a popular and well-established singer or band is most closely identified with or best known for, even if they have had success with a variety of songs. Signature songs can be the result of spontaneous public identification and/or a marketing tool developed by the music industry to promote artists, sell their recordings, and develop a fan base.
Let's start with a singer who has lots of possible signature songs...but please just choose one (and explain why)

I think this is probably the hardest artist to choose for.

She has so many signature songs:
Like a Virgin - the song which made her a global superstar, and the wedding dress is pretty iconic. It's also one of her most controversial songs.
Material Girl - the song wasn't that big, but the video is one of her most famous and 30 years later, she still gets called the 'material girl'
Like a Prayer - I'm not sure about this. It's definitely her most popular song (and possibly video) and is one of her most critically acclaimed. People will always remember it for its controversy, but the song is good too.
Vogue - maybe this one applies to people who are a bit younger, as this was her defining hit of the 90s and is played a lot more than her other songs
Hung Up - for the new generation, I guess they know Madonna best for 'Hung Up' and it's one of her most successful songs too.

I have to think about this.

I think is Like A Prayer.

Imo, it is the song that consolidated her as a superstar. She was a great artist before, but with this song she did a very personal and touching song (and album) but at the same time a classic sound, classic chorus and commercial success.

During her last two tours, this is the song that people sing and dance the most to.

Revolver ft Lil Wayne

NO
Like A Virgin, I think.
Because of the look (immediately Madonna), the chorus, the subject.
LAP is probably her quality peak, singles/ and popularity-wise, but it doesn't have a "signature look" (I mean, the brunette)

I'm surprised that seems unusual, I always thought hairy arms were pretty standard.

any song from biscuits' list could be considered her signature. from a critical standpoint Like a Prayer, however Like a Virgin probably has probably impacted culture the most.

Like A Prayer IMO. It's just the iconic song that I instantly think of when I think of Madonna. It's also my fave song of hers, so maybe I'm biased.

"Like a Prayer", and I think the fact that she chose to close her SuperBowl halftime show with it cemented the fact that it's her signature song. It's one of a handful of classics she has that extends beyond her rabid fan base; even my mom loves it.

Hairy arm(pit)s were popular in the 80s.

Popular?? Nah, not really but nobody thought about it really. I had a very nasty deodorant back then that crystallized around my armpit hair and looked like frozen hair after a few days so I shaved my pits very early.
