I actually agree with Biscuits for once in my life. If you asked people in the 90s, they would have said 'You Oughta Know', but now it's 'Ironic'

It's Ironic in the UK, definitely the one radio seem to play the most still

Ironic. It's so obvious. It's like you asked what's the signature song of Jennifer Paige or Natalie Imbruglia

In terms of her style, I'm leaning towards "You Oughta Know"

I agree, it is definitely Ironic, at least here in Europe.

I don't get why anyone is putting her in the same sentence as Jennifer Paige or Natalie Imbruglia. True that Alanis never came near the success of JLP ever again but that album alone puts her on a higher level than those two could ever dream of. That album had five smash hits alone, not like Jennifer Paige and her one whole hit single.

I think they're saying that the choice for Alanis (Ironic) is as obvious as 'Crush' or 'Torn', but that's wrong as there are 2 strong contenders here.

idk, for me YON is far away from the impact of Ironic. maybe it's different in other parts of the world, here everyone mostly just knows Ironic. so the situation for me really is like Torn for Natalie Imbruglia in terms of obviousness

Yeah, but this thread shows that YON is up there too and it's not so clear cut

True. Ironic is probably the bigger song but I do think YOK is the one I usually think of when I think of her classic signature.
